I was battling my brother in a seemingly one sided battle but he still managed to kick my but. I had two tactical squads of ten organised in the following way: Squad 1 VS with bolter and chainsword 7 SM with bolters SM with flamer SM with missile launcher Squad 2 VS with auspex, bolter and power weapon 7 SM with bolters SM with meltagun SM with missile launcher My leader was a Commander with bolter-melta, lightning claw, artificer armour and bionics I also had a terminator squad of 5, 4 with storm bolters and powerfists and, VS with storm bolter and power weapon. Oh and a landraider

He was fighting me with 2, 8 man guardian defender squads, an avatar, a 4 man firedragon squad. despite all the fire power I had, I could not destroy those guardian squads. His avatar then swept through my ranks destroying my Commander and terminator squad. while this was happening my landraider was destroyed by his firedragons. I had no hope of winning now because my troops just couldnt harm his avatar.

Keep your distance. You can shoot him to death. The Avatar is tough. Try to avoid close combat with him. Use both Lascannon sponsons and both Missile Launchers on him. He is only Toughness 6 with a 5+ Invulnerable save. With only 4 wounds, he should be dead in two turns. It's hard to see how you lost. Post maybe a small turn by turn description. With what you had, you should've stomped him. I'd like to read what happened in more detail.

termie powerfists should have stomped the avatar, badly. how did you let the landraider get within 12" of WALKING fire dragons??? how did you let the avatar get into combat, and stay there eating several squads? fire priority is the firedragons as they're so weak and give up points so fast. avoid the avatar, it should be easy to stay out of 12" of him. did you play on a really small board? what weapon did the guardians have? if it wasn't a bright lance / starcannon grav platform, you should never have shot them. although, its nice to see someone admitting they lost, a lot of people are too proud to ask for advice and help

It would probably be wise just to keep the terminators out of combat unless its with squishy things that dont have power weapons...4+ invulnerable monstrous creatures aren't very kind to them. (termies striek last, 2+ to wound, 1-3 go thru armour vs. monster strikes first, 2+ to wound and 1-4 termy fails invul) I'd go with spooky's advice on target priority though. Barring starcannons, he's only really got the fire dragons and avatar that are decent MEQ killers. Hang back and shoot and you should win..honestly it sounds like you made some mistakes on you ranges and a few bad dice rolls. All the stuff on your commander does kind of look like overkill though.

Sight unseen, I can tell you that your target priority and spacing were off. As others have said, taking out the Fire Dragons should have been your first priority; everything that could have shot at them should have. Once they are gone, then you can use the LR on the Avatar as well as whatever Rapid Fire/Shootiness was needed to keep it out of Close Combat. Once that's done, you could wipe up the Guardian squads.
As for spacing, the Avatar should never have been able to kill off more than one squad. Assuming that shooting it to death as it advanced didn't work and it was able to Assault, your squads should have been spaced so the Avatar couldn't consolidate into any other squad when it won combat (which is almost assured that it would have.) It should have been left hanging out in the open for all your other squads to Rapid Fire it to death.

How couldn't you wipe out the guardians. They don't get an armour save against bolters! BTW GO ELDAR!!!!!!

You should've dropped the artificer and bionics and given his terminator armour. You also get an extra attack from the included Terminator Honours! That was a bad loss. Really Bad. Still can't believ you didn't kill the guardians with 2 tactical squads. They should've been nearly wiped out in the first turn!

What was the point value of this game? The eldar seems only to have 276 points (16 guardians @ 8 points each, avatar @ 80, 4 fire dragons @ 17 each) Your landraider alone is nearly as much. Seems a bit... daft.

This must be the most glaring example of thread-necromancy ever.
I have a hard time remembering games from last night. I doubt this guy remembers anything about a game that took place before Thanksgiving...

Yeah, I have to admit it was on the last page of threads and I doubt Xvarion even comes to these forums anymore, but the points difference was just so far off. I know this was just a friendly brother vs. brother game, but he should have totally decimated (spelling?) the eldar.
