What do you guys think about reverse comp scoring where you intentionally bring the cheesiest army list you can think up? You are scored higher the more cheesy your army is.

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

I like it.

It encourages people to bring competitive lists. That's why I go to tournaments; I want to see who can beat on me.

We used to play these type of tournaments in Raleigh when I still lived there. I would just bring my typical armies and win.

So to all the people who only like battlepoints I guess its just not the same for ya if there is any soft scoring, even if it were some you could max out.

Isn't this the default way of playing tourneys any way? Not the comp thing but the bringing a dead hard, killy list as min-maxxed as your list will support?

Not in the current climate, at least in the US. Lots of the big hobby events are featuring soft scores topping 45% of the total points, and it seems that an increasingly large portion of that is dedicated to comp.

How about we just drop comp? It would still be broken since everyone's idea of cheese is different. Cheese is a word used by people who talk about an army after it has smash the ever living hell out of them.

Drop Comp

@ Hulksmash

that is why your opponents would score you on your army's cheeziness after the game not before.

These were some of my favorite tournaments. Everyone knows everyone is supposed to bring their most uber list. That's why it's called reverse comp. Everybody I met that played in these tournies had a great time and no one ever had any hard feelings about somebody bringing a hard list. The games were quite competitive but always a lot of fun.

This is not intended to be a discussion on the merits of no comp, rather a means of participating in a competitive tournAment that encourages players to bring their hardest lists out and have a blast playing.

The idea of "reverse comp scoring" is just as bad as regular comp scoring and for the same fundamental reasons. Arbitrarily penalizing or rewarding people doesn't make any sense in any event described as competitive. Let the lists be rewarded by performing well or penalized by performing poorly. There's no need for TO's to push their opinions of how the hobby should be played one way or the other.

Reverse comp seems to be the same as no comp, only more complicated. You still have subjectivity on what is the most cheesy army.

If you have played in them and liked them though, perhaps we should try it out and see for ourselves.

You are a fanatic and it has blinded you. You have completely missed the premise here.

The problem with the idea is that it's still a subjective scoring system.

What I think would be great for a tournament like this is that you just bring your armies, play your games, and determine best general. Then you have a separate vote or scoring for most cheesy that doesn't influence any score other than cheesyness and gets them a silly prize, like a big wheel of cheese.

Otherwise, if the cheesyness score mattered, people will just chipmunk each other. "oh, your army tabled me on turn 2? thats nice...but it wasn't very cheesy 1 point"

I think just encouraging people to bring their hardest armies is enough.

The whole point is to bring what you think is a very hard list & you win the tournament by scoring the highest reverse comp. It was a means of making fun of comp in general and everyone who came out had a great time. Winning only helped you to score higher for reverse comp. Youve completely missed the point!

Not everyone needs a cosmic arbitrator to impose their lofty version of what is right and what is wrong with the game or how it is played. When I say you missed the point i am saying whenever you see anything that you view as a restriction you will immediately rail against it with no foresight or afterthought. If everyone that participated in an event had a good time then obviously it was just that. I can just imagine you running from gaming store to gaming store telling people how they should play. It is humorous to say the least.

Funny, I seem to remember you doing exactly this in my local game store.

...really, check yourself.

Yea, and ummm....silly idea. Specially in a game where some people still think that Nob Bikers and Lash lists are hard. Normal Comp or Reverse Comp, the "catagory" has no place in a real tournament.

Sorry I wasn't able to divine the purpose of your obviously ingenious and totally hilarious satire.

I'm somewhat disappointed in you though. After all of your trolling attempts and jabs at me in these threads about tournament play you've still failed to understand that the reason why I'm against any restrictions is because I'm dead set against telling (or being told) how to enjoy the hobby.

Drop comp altogether. It's too subjective either way. Find a way to make it a more objective excercise and I would be willing to discuss it's place as a scoring element.

Or just don't play at events that use comp if you don't like it. They won't miss ya either.
