Scotland

Hi all.

I played at Conflict in the Braehead arena yesterday.

This event was much better organised than last year.

Overall the day was a blast. Guy on the speaker system needed to calm down a bit though - for some reason he thought he was a pirate.

Didn't quite manage to get my war walkers finished before the tournament but they were good enough to put on the table.

My team was Eldar and Tau at 1000pts combined. You could complete the force org between you but no second heavy etc until you had one entry in each category.

Eldar
HQ - Farseer, runes of witnessing, sing spear, sp stones, fortune, doom
Troop - 7 Dire Avengers including Exarch with 2 shuricats
Elite - 8 Striking scorpians
Heavy - 3 War walkers with 2 Shuricans each.

Tau
Troops - 2 x 12 firewarrior teams
Fast - 8 pathfinders + devilfish
1 pirhana with fusion blaster

Game 1 vrs Eldar and Gaurd - 2 objectives each

opponents had a hydra, a hellhound, a guard squad with autocannon, outflanking vets with hellguns, farseer, storm guardians, firedragons and a wraithlord.

One of those games that whatever we tried didn't work. The dice were very fickle towards us.
My Outflanking WW came on the wrong board edge and out of range for their shuricans.
His armour gave us fits - well the hellhound did.
My Eldar were wiped by turn 3.
They did managed to pull most of the enemy forces away out on our left flank though which meant the opposing army was too far away to challenge our objectives.
My team mate was left with one unit of firewarriors and his pirhanna by turn five. As we went second he turbo boosted his pirhanna up onto one of our opponents objectives and covered our two objectives with his squad of fire warriors.
We rolled for an extra turn and it came up a 2 - our first bit of luck in the game.

Result - Draw????? the GW staff ruled that 1 unit can only hold one objective so we held one as did they. We were trashed in KP 7 - 0

To be fair I felt that it would've been an unfair result if we had got the win as we did take a pounding so we were ok with the draw.

Game 2 vrs Sisters and demonhunters 1 objective each and table quarter deployment

Opponents had Inquisitor with 2 heavy bolter and one plasma canon servitor (anti deeptrike) 6 PAGK, 3 GK termis. Sisters had an exorcist, a squad in a rhino and another squad footslogging (sorry didn't know the name of these squads as I'm not familiar with Sisters.

This game was better for us and a close run thing for the two teams.
We both tried to reach each others objectives but both got bogged down in the centre of the board. My Farseer did manage to blunt their offensive by stepping out and managed to destroy the rhino with 2 hits with his spear in CC even though the vehicle had moved 12".
Their GK termis came in and got shot to pieces by the dire avengers and FW squad. With both these squads stopped in their tracks they had no way to take our objective.
The war walkers nearly won us this game as they came on, shot up the sisters squad holding their objective and then killed a sister in CC which made them run.
They would've run of the board if they hadn't used a faith point? to rally and then retake the objective after the WW's died.

All in a hard fought draw that was a fair result for both teams. KP 8 - 4 to them.

With 2 draws under our belts we needed a win to climb up the rankings a bit as we were now going to be playing on table 39 out of 60.

Our last game pitched us against our round one opponents again!

This time we had more luck.

Annihilation and table halves

The result of the game was that they conceeded at the end of turn four as they had no way back by then. KP 8 - 0 to us.
Points to note were the duel between the pirhanna and the hydra, the wraithlord getting shot to pieces between all the firewarriors and the WW in one turn (I got a doom on it), and the scorps and farseer stopping the hellhound grilling us again.

Everything went well in this game, in fact, luck wise, it was a complete reversal from the first time we faced these guys.

What I learned from our experiences - outflanking WW with shuricans are a great unit for the points. In smaller games a singing spear on the farseer is useful anti armour.

It was good to see a really good mix of armies there. Only army I can't remember seeing at all was Necron.

I'd be interested to see the results from the tourney as we left before they were posted.

A good day out that we thoroughly enjoyed.

It was organised better , really? how bad must it have been last time. Nice write up dudes bad deal playing first round opps twice.
The guy on the mike needed to die, and a complaint made to GW about the poor time keeping making rounds so short some less that an hour I was informed. We didnt loose all day but the team who won didnt really as they only had 9 points while the best painted army guys with the 10 thunder hammer terms had 10 so they wont really. Our bus mate only played 9 turns all day with there nids, which seems really poor value as we got swizzed on time.

Yeah me and my partner were a little annoyed when we found out we had actually came first.
However we're meant to be getting trophies and the results corrected. Hopefully they keep to their word...

Here was our army that won both 1st place and Best Painted army

In that shadow right behind you...

I think a certain Dakka member on here needs a huge round of applause as he won not one, but three painting awards. However I'll wait for him to tell you who he is Man that gold paint on that trophy(trophies).... It sure fits with his name.

Yep I've got to agree with other posters and say the organisation was quite inept. I went to a tournament in York (Varpatnak) earlier this year and it ran like clockwork. And we got our results via e-mail the day after. No surprises that GW had nothing to do with it.

That said I had fun, does anyone know if results are online?

compared to last year when we only got half an hour for our second game I thought it was better organised.

We managed to finish all three games. And they had two lap tops for score keeping lol. They only had one last year.

Thanks for the pics Dezartfox. There were some very well painted armies there.

There were a lot of Tau armies there. I was quite surprised.

Nice battle reports and very well done on the montage of painted armies!

The organisers will probably improve next year. 60 teams is a lot of players and tables to keep track of.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

hi,
first pic on the last row with the blue orks were mine.

Went better than last year but I did have to tell the guy on the PA to SHUT IT during the second game.
