Hey Everyone,

If I can manage to get Saturday off, I plan on going to this year's 'Ard Boyz tourney. I've never been there before so I have a few questions.
I'm trying to get an idea of what armies everyone is planning on taking to 'Ard Boyz. I'm probably taking Orks, my only other army is Tyranids, but I would have to do a lot of painting to get them ready to compete. Right now most of them are un-painted or painted very poorly from previous Owners. I also need to do some Convertin' and Painting for Orks, but I thnk it will be a lot less work than basically starting from scratch with Nids.

But I want to know what you guys think would be more competetive? Is it worth trying to paint up Nids or are Orks going to be equal or better competetive wise?

I'm also wondering what everyone is planning on taking.

And What do you think the Top Tier armies will be, in general?

what armies do you think will be the most competetive
What armies are you taking personally.

If I'm not helping a family member move that day then I'm taking Orks and I think Orks will be on of the most competitive. But I'm biased cause I'm gonna be playing them

Top Tier in General (No particular Order):
1. Guard
2. Space Wolves
3. Blood Angels
4. Orks

I believe that a good tyranid list with a good tyranid player will also be in that top tier. Every other list either sucks or maxes out before 2500.

A Vulkan C:SM list can fair pretty well in the right hands, although they generally suffer from a lack of scoring units and too many eggs in one basket.

*wipes away a tear* Right up there at the top with Necrons man.

I'm probably taking Orks, which I think can compete with the best out there. I sort of want to take Dark Eldar.....but they don't scale up to 2500 at *all*.

Ahh, glad to see you here Dash!

I've been meaning to contact you. I was hoping you would tell me what kinda lists you run that get you such good results. I notice you have a pretty good record with Orks. I hate to sound doubtful, but I have a hard time believing Orks can get that many wins without encountering troubles vs. Mechanized lists, since that's a lot of reasons people don't play them competetively.

Anyways, I think I'm going to check out this Vassal thing and maybe we could play sometime. In the meantime, I've been hoping to try out some of the lists you run. I'll probably have my own up pretty soon.

Unless you have a personal rule about fielding painted armies in tournaments, painting is not a requirement for 'Ardboyz. WYSIWYG is in full effect though.

IMO orks have trouble in scaling above 2k as well, depending on how you run them of course. At 2500 orks would love to be able to take about 3 more heavy support and 2 more elites... if I could do that I could make a ridiculous ork list for ard boys, I will still be taking them most likely but will have to work with what we got

I think IG, SW & BA will all perform quite well. I have been playtesting a raider heavy BA list and am pleased with the results so far. I also think CSM could do well too, it's just not as popular anymore.

You're welcome to meet me Vassal at any time with the mechanized list of your choice to find out whether my orks are competitive or not.

Your probly best off with Orks Nidz at those points I think will suffer because of how readily available Melta plasma and Lascannons are. And the things in the nid codex hate those lol.

I'm going to jump the bandwagon and say Orks will probably fare better at the boyz. Although there's always your local market that you have to keep in mind.

Personally, I'm going with Blackmoor's style over substance approach above. Fully painted WH (Sisters) with Inducted Guard and a DH Inq.

I agree with the Ork bandwagon.

Also, you should take a look through the Ard Boyz rules before you put in a ton of time trying to paint that army up for this tournament....

I'm taking Tau, figure I'll catch some people off guard. In my local grouping I think there will be a lot of ork and nid players, however the best player is this guard guy who I've played to a draw the last 4 times we played.

You mean for just WH/DH? Because SM and IG clearly get allies.

Ard Boyz 2010 wrote:
Imperial Guard
• Codex Imperial Guard 2009
• Imperial Guard may take Inquisitorial Allies as defined in Codex Daemonhunters or Codex Witchhunters.
• Grey Knight Terminators may not travel in Valkyries or Vendetta Gunships

• Codex Dark Angels
• Codex Space Wolves 2009
• Codex Black Templars
• Space Marine may take Inquisitorial Allies as defined in Codex Daemonhunters or Codex Witchhunters
• Codex Blood Angels 2010

But WH/DH have no language for allies between Ordos. I'm carrying two lists to 'Ard Boyz just in case.

Orks.

Deff Rollas? Planks? KFF? Power Klaws? Nobz?

Just too much win not to love them greenskins.

I don't understand the Ork doubt. Since the FAQ on the Deff rolla the orks have some of the best AT in the game (Opinion).

I'll be curious what all the ork players will throw out at 2500. I've seen a couple of the lists from last years 'Ard Boyz (where orks had a couple in the top 5 or 6), but times change. Unfortunately, the Ard Boyz prelims are on my wife's birthday, so I'll just be fodder for warmup games for my friends.

Orks will do just fine, don't doubt it.

I agree though, the big dogs will be:

IG
Wolves
Marines
BA
Orks
Daemons (although they will be underrepresented, but perform well as they usually do)
CSM

Those are my top pics.

That pretty much covers half of the lists available?

Not 'top'? DE, Necron, Eldar, Codex SM, WH or DH?

Seems like saying "I'm pretty sure an east coast team will make it to the World Series this year..."

I'd bring something like this:

Big Mek - KFF
Warboss - PK
15x Lootas
15x Lootas
15x Lootas
10x Nobs w/painboy as Troops- Assorted BC and PK in Battle Wagon with 2xBS and Deff Rolla
20x Shoota Boys w/Nob - 2x BS and PK on nob
20x Shoota Boys w/Nob - 2x BS and PK on nob
20x Shoota Boys w/Nob - 2x BS and PK on nob
Deff Dread as a troop
3x Battle Wagons w/deff rolla and 2x bigshoota

something like 170 to spare, only non maxed slot is troops and fast
