The BIG SHOW! is back for another year. In addition to the 2999pt Warhammer Fantasy Tournament we will be holding a day 40k event, and a beginners 40k tournament. This is an Indy GT event with 2 tickets to the LV Nationals in 2011 for both WFB and 40k events.

A quick summary:

Hosted by Showcase Comics and the BigGunZ-NE Gaming Club at the the Granite Run Mall in Media PA.

The 2999: WFB, with 2999pt armies. 3 games on Saturday and 2 games on Sunday. Painting, Comp, Sports, and Battle.

Ironman 40k: 4 Games on Saturday, 1500pts. Tournament is decided by battle points alone. No comp, sports or painting scores. There will be prizes for the top 3 generals and the 3 best painted armies. Armies must be painted and based to participate.

Young Gunz 40k tournament: For players 17 and younger or older beginners with the TO's permission. 3 games on Sunday, basic missions, 1200 points. No painting required. Relaxed Format with several veteran players on hand to help with rules and strategy.

In response to a couple of emails:

-Yes, these are all separate tournaments. Come for the one day 40k, the bigginer 40k, or the two day fantasy. Separate prizes for all.

-Two tickets each for the 1 day 40k event, and the 2 day fantasy event.

-Painting and appearance for the 40k event are separate from battle points. Tickets go to the top two generals, determined by battle points only.

-Yes, there is a minimum painting requirement. I'll post a set of guidlines for it. WYSIWYG is in effect. No bare bases, models must be fully painted using at least 3 colors.

Mike. I enjoyed the last event a lot. Some suggestions...

1) standard missions please. "Everyone run to the middle and beat face!" is bloody and fun... but doesn't bring fwd the strategy aspect of the game. Standard missions can fix this for me and for some other tactical people

2) Are you using the same painting rubric? Less points on conversions... or make conversion points harder to earn... And this is coming from someone who has a totally converted daemon army. You're a great judge, but I felt there may have been one or two extra points in this rubric category too many.

3) Will gladly drive out there and have a beer with you to discuss these topics :p so it can be discussed properly

Beer helps any discussion.) If not another time, I think I'm safe in assuming you'll be over to my shop for round 2 or 3 of 40k 'ardboyz.

Painting will be a very simplified affair. Dince painting doesn't figure into the score for anything but top 3 best painted getting prizes. I will probably just go through the room, and cut to the top 10 painted armies, then do a quick grade on those and drop the low 4, and then do full grading for the top 6. Prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Currently conversions are 1-3 points. The general idea is one point is fairly easy to get, 2 points represents real and obvious work put into the models, and 3 being very difficult to get. I'll be reviewing the painting checklist again before then, as it's an ongoing project.

Missions won't be totally standard, but won't be anything totally wacky. And sometimes raw force is a strategy.) Using the same standard missions does let players develop a strategy for those missions, but also contributes to seeing many of the same armies that will do well in those missions.

Lots more breathing room on this tournament than with the SVDM. I had less than 60 days start to finish for that event, with the announcement of the GW GT system and making the commitment to a lease for the space, and the scramble to buy tables and chairs, make scenery, paint the room, clean carpet, etc etc. With all that done and scenery increasing at about 100 pieces a month, I can take a couple of months to take a long look at scenarios, and critique them a lot more. Yakface has posted up some good discussions on missions that I've saved and will be reviewing.

Also gives time to post up 8-10 missions here on Dakka, get criticism, make changes, and then pick out four for the tournament.

This sounds awesome. I'm really tempted to try BoLscon this year, which is cross-country and the weekend immediately after you, so I suspect the wife won't be cool with doing both. But the Iron Man is definitely in the running.
