Work in Progress Tutorial, I just wanted to post the prototype for the second version of Blood Angels Storm Raven that I built a month ago.
I hope to update it frequently till I can replicate the prototype in an easy follow instruction. This is a bit more
challenging conversion since it makes use of more plastic card. Anyway I hope to update the tutorial through out the week
till it is finished.
Components needed from Landraider, mainly the hull for the front portion of the conversion
I used a trimmed 1/4" plastic tubing to help in connecting the inner and outer hull
Use clippers, saw and hobby knife to carefully shave the pieces to connect the outer and inner portion of the hull.
The floor portion of the raider in then cut at these point
glue the hull as so to start with, a strip of plastic card is used to support the hull, this will also be used as a resting spot for the
Valkyrie canopy that will be used.
Glue the front Landraider hull to the crew compartment hull of the Valkyrie. I made use of plastic card
'L' beams for added support, you can also use the sprue frames if you don't have this bit.
Trimmed down the front canopy, cockpit of the Valkyrie and carefully cut it to fit to the front.
Decided to get rid of the Landraider headlights and used plastic card and green stuff to fill the hole.
Made the front weapon mount from cut plastic card and drilled a 1/8" hole to be able to place a small
rare earth magnet for the weapon mount.
Side profile of the completed hull so far.
Use the Valkyrie wing and tail support for the wing mount. I cut it in one of the grooved and glued it to the side of the
troop compartment. I had to shave down a bit of plastic to get it flushed.
Use the rest of the wing support and trim it down so that it can be attached on the lower hull.
This will aid in gradually bulking up the lower portion of the model.
Use plastic card to cover up the cut marks and to fill in the unsightly holes.
I trimmed down the small wings (canards) that will be used on the front of the Storm Raven
I used the front cockpit hull as rear wings and also as a engine mount
With the aid of trimmed downed 1/8" plastic tubing I went ahead and glued the engines on top of the body.
Storm Raven so far, nearly at its completion
Decided to make use of the void/space in the under belly.
Just makes better sense that the missiles are carried internally since it needs to be protected when reentering atmosphere.
I will build the proper doors for the underbelly later on.
I hope to complete the model in the next two nights, I apologize for the long delay since other priorities came up.
Update: May 20, 2010
Just wanted to post comparison pictures of the scale of the model compared to the hull of the Forge World Thunderhawk.
