Having decided to create a Veteran Squad armed with shotguns in order to maximise the potential of Gunnery Sergeant Harker and his Relentless ability I though I'd share this simple conversion. Having used it already on a converted version of Colonel Stracken, a veteran mini and my Ministorum Priest, I was confident of being able to recreate the style for many miniatures with little expense or effort!

You will need :

Imperial Guard Lasgun (I use catachans)
Flamer

Tools :

Craft Knife (Please don't cut yourself)
File
Glue (Please don't stick yourself to the table)
Green Stuff (maybe)

Step 1 - Cut Lasgun
Step 2 - Cut Flamer
Step 3 - Trim Flamer rounding the top edges and remove magazine from Lasgun
Step 4 - Using the file straighten the edges
Step 5 - bring together the halves and glue
Step 6 - Green stuff the gaps if necessary

This is my first attempt at a tutorial and I hope it is helpful and useful if you've taken the time to check this out! Below the step by step images is a picture of the shotguns attatched and painted to my mini's.

Thanks for looking!

definitely looks nice and believable for a tabletop 40k shotgun but it's an expensive conversion. most people i've seen use IG shotguns have the whole squad use them (so that they can fire and still assault, not like lasguns). flamers only come one per squad, unfortunately.

Yup, thats a drawback that I managed to get around because I hunted high and low to get the old 20 man catachan boxed sets but also when converting my cadian parts I used grenade launchers instead of the flamer... saving them up see.

I recommend checking out bitz box or model bits who advertise here on dakka dakka. You can buy loads of flamers individually from them.

Thanks again for checking it out!

i dont think it looks too expensive, doesnt the catachin set come with a bunch of flamers?

i really like this conversion, when i make shotguns. consider it stolen

you get one flamer and one grenade launcher with each 10 guardsmen you buy. i actually used up some of my flamers in special weapon squads (the regular infantry squads only have grenade launchers) so i don't have enough. i just "converted" (i used the quotes because i simply painted up and glued some backpacks to regular IG) some vets with melta guns and would prefer the two squads to have shotguns instead of lasguns (so they can assault after shooting). i'd need 14 flamers and i definitely don't have enough. i'm considering snipping off the barrels from the lasguns as well as the stocks so they "count as" shotguns and are visually different from the lasguns to prevent confusion.

You only get grenade launchers in the cadian kit! But the point I'm trying to make is that you don't need to buy the kit to obtain the pieces you require!

I'm sure if you start asking around or searching online you'll find plenty of spare flamers are availalble.

These look pretty good altho i would try to extend the gun barrel just slightly by putting on a new one from a plastic rod or something simmulair but regardless good conversion

You get 2 flamers per 10 guys. I do something similar, except of using the receiver of the flamer, I only use the middle tube section to replace the lasgun barrel. It ends up looking smaller than your version. Don't get me wrong, I quite like what you've done, just wanted to show an alternative.

I felt that the flamer grip gave the shotgun a pump action handle look which I liked alot so thats why I used that piece of the flamer. I can picture what you mean though and think that it would give the shotgun more of a combat shotgun look as opposed to the pump action look which I've adopted!

I like the pump-action look myself. I might have to try this with a few of the spare flamers I have in my bits collection!

This is a great idea and I applaud your vision! This makes me want to do the same but with a GL and flammer or GL and lasgun so as to have the drum magazine look, this might look too much like a GL but I'll have to try it. Even if it doesn't work I'll be using your idea. Thanks again.

I'm really pleased to see this shotgun tutorial has been well received. Having read this response I was keen to expand the idea and very quickly knocked this guy together last night. Hope you don't mind!

1.) I really do like how the finished shotguns came out. They look very, very convincing.

a.) Personally, I'd leave the clip in place.
b.) Is there some kind of proxy that can be added for a round drum clip?

2.) As an alternative, if you do not have a lot of flamers lying around, you might want to consider MaxMini. You get 10 for €4.80

I love both of these, kudos to op and 2nd attempt at shotguns.

The first one reminds me of a modern pump-action semi-automatic shotgun, while the 2nd looks fully automatic.

The first one I find is a little more easily identifiable as a shotgun i.e. wysiwyg
