The Guard lists need fine tuning. You don't need melta bombs on plasma guns because you cannot charge after, I'd rather fire those mass special weapons I've just paid for. Meltaguns need to be up close, so autocannons won't be affective as cannot fire and move - autocannons are best with a plasma gun and objective camping - you do that with melta no one will come close with armour. Should ditch lascannons on the Demolishers too and ditch the Valkyrie as single target, get more Chimeras for target saturation

On Orks Warboss should have cybork body, not 'eavy armour as loads of ap4 about. Mad Dok isn't that good HQ choice and not being used right, a Big Mek is a much better choice. 'Ard Boyz are too expensive, shoud be normal Boyz.

Lists need to be changed better if for starter armies as making mistakes and not the strongest build or best weapon synergy. Get those changes done and along with other army lists will be decent

I think that Ork 500pt list is pretty solid, but I'll admit the 1000pt one isn't quite what everyone thinks is great.

I will say that Grotsnik + 'ard Boyz makes for a screening unit that can take some fire and do something when it gets across the board

Idea: if the price is just "buy X+Y+Z", then fine.

If it means buying a "special box", be it a Battleforce or Black Reach or whatever, it would help the not-so-knowledgeable I'm mainly thinking of the Orks.

Set up shop and blast 'em to pieces is my favourite strategy.

An interesting article

I've always found it's best to do, at least, a rough army list before you buy - going for a 'standard' 500 points is a good way to begin any army, then you can later tailor it to your needs/desires.

I've always had a set rule that works for most armies (some better than others) when it comes to prices. You normally get about 7-10 points for every £1/$1.5...roughly. So a battle force is usually enough to get you 350-500 points, depending on the army. A good way to look at it is a character costs about £8-12 now. You typically get 80-150 points (or more if they're a special character) for that money - so if you look at it from this perspective it's not bad value. Sadly the things you really get hit on are vehicles - so for the trend in mech these days it's becoming more and more expensive to buy an army (Guard are amongst the most expensive to collect as you need buckets of troops and vehicles). Yet you can always take into account 2nd hand bits from Ebay or the 20% off from most online retailers.

For example:

An average unit (plastic or metal) now costs £15-22.50...ranging from Guardsmen to Marines (50/80 - 170/200)

SM Battleforce £46 (all from online retailer & inc UK postage) = 470 points + (including any power fists/special weapons/vehicle upgrades)
Ork Battleforce £46 = 350 +/- depending on the gubbins...
Cadian Battleforce £50 = 370 +/- depending on what you give them (I miss the days when it had a Leman Russ in it - that would easily bring it to 500 points )...

etc...

Very interesting idea warspawned! I will probably have to add that bit of info to help beginners.

I got submissions for the WH, I am still looking for the rest! I would do them myself, but I am only experienced with SM, IG, CSM. Thanks in advance for all the info gents!
