After playing a game, Imperials against Orks, I had some questions regarding boarding actions.
First, can someone explain how Ork boarding is supposed to crush enemy ships? I had a Kill Kroozer (3 hits) w Warlord board an IN cruiser (unhurt), which meant that I had 18 Hull Value against his 8, for a +2 bonus, +1 for being Ork. The only thing added to that are other modifiers for crippled, blast markers, etc. The IN ship roll gets a +2 mod for turrets, meaning I'm netting a +1 superiority in boarding. How is that supposed to be crippling to an enemy? I did see I could have taken mega-armored Orks for a further +1, but it still means a +2 bonus, which can easily be overcome due to bad
d6 rolling.
Second: Can ships that are in a boarding action be fired upon? Can I, in the Ork turn, fire on an IN ship that I have boarded with another ship? If they've been sitting due to a tied boarding action, do they count as defenses? I'd appreciate a rulebook or
FAQ reference to support either interpretation.
Third: It is my understanding that if one instigates a boarding action, and there is a resolution (i.e. one side wins), the other player can move away in their next turn. The Rulebook says that the 'a ship which survives the boarding action may move away in their next turn." If that is true, then the only way to lock up a ship is to get a tie result on the boarding action rolls, which then says the ships "grappel together" and can't separate until one is reduced to zero hull points.
Thanks in advance. I did pretty well with the Ork fleet, but there are either some gaping holes in the rules, or gaping holes in my tactics
