I just finished some fire warriors the other day (well, kind of). Now I'm new to the hobby, so these are the first models I've ever done. I know right now they do like quite boring and, to be honest, not all that good .
Now I did want to paint the crevaces and lines in the armor, but don't know how to go about it. My brother suggested I could use black wash and wipe it off so it's only left in the crevaces, or I could take my 18/0 brush with a dab of black and paint them in, how should I do this
Also to make them just look better I could also add some wash all over, however I want my warriors to look clean and crisp, not dirty and battle-worn. I could also use a varnish too, but I'm not sure how that would affect my models. What does dakka think I should do

If there is anything else you would suggest for me to improve on my painting, please state it in the thread, if you would. I appreciate your comments .

P.S. There is more photos in my galllery.

They look great - espeically considering that they're your first minis! Yellow is hard to paint right.

A light brown wash might do them good though.

I do have some devlan mud on hand, should I use that.

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

Thinning your paints/loading less paint on the brush/applying less pressure with the brush would make a drastic positive change in your painting. Not to say it's bad, it's better than my first minis for sure!

If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

Okay I'll keep that in mind (though I probably won't redo these guys, at least not for a while). I apperciate any tips you can give me, as I started with pretty much no idea what I was doing . Thanks anyways

For your first minis those are excellent, you show good controland attention to detail, and the suggestions for a wash of devlan mud, or chaos black wash would would not hurt.

One technique I use alot on my tau is dry brushing which involves putting a little paint on the bristles of a square-ish brush and wiping most of it off on a paper towel, when you apply it to the mini it will highlight the raised areas and can be slowly built up in color. just a tip

I think if you continue along your route here your painting will be stellar in no time.

Thanks again for all your comments and suggestions. I think I will try applying a wash to one of my guys (to see how it will look), hopefully quite soon, and if I like it then I'll do that with the rest. Thanks for all your other suggestions and complements, it means a lot.

Try to wash with devlan mud, then re-layer on the base color and highlight, leaving the mud in the recesses.
