Looks excellent, thank you! I've just started thinking about how best to display my stuff... I'm tired of my Tupperware!

Saw this article yesterday, so when walking through Ikea today I just had to pick up one of these cabinets.

I figure in a few days I'll head to Ikea with the receipt, say my shelves got broken, and I need replacements (and pay for them, no worries not ripping anyone off, just here they won't sell replacements unless it's broken first)

Then I'll use these steps.
Thanks for the article!

Nice! Glad you found the article useful.

Please post again and let me know if you were able to get replacements.

Brilliant job, I'm about to move house and have been wondering how i would display my minis in new house as i was getting annoyed with shoe boxes. So i think I'll have to go on a trip to Ikea.

So apparently Ikea here don't like replacing stuff at all unless they get the broken parts back, so I will need to find somewhere to get the glass cut instead.

Ahh, I had a feeling they might say that. Glaziers are cheaper in the UK than Japan, so you're lucky there.

Not really.. I live in Iceland ^^

So far I've not even been able to find someone that can do it.
But the quest continues! I must have one of these modded cases.

You may want to try plexiglass if you're in a pinch. I prefer and can recommend glass, but when you don't have that option plexiglass may be the next best thing.

Thank you for the excellent tips on the universal IKEA shelf. I would never of thought of using the wire clamps for adding shelving.

Great article, I have an existing cabinet but very short on lights so I will look into the LED strips. A trip to Maplin I think!

Great tutorial.
I thought about using U shaped plexi stands as additional shelves but it was hard to source and your idea is so much easier/cheaper.
The lights are nice touch too!
Thanks.

This is great. Bought an IKEA display yesterday and started to consider how to add more shelves. Et voilĂ  found this tutorial

Heh, and I can vouch for the IKEA case being very heavy. Luckily for me there was another bloke buying the same so some team work got things sorted.

Thanks AesSedai

Yeah man this is one of the most useful articles in the hobby, period. I'm pretty sure it's become a standard read for people looking to get a case, and not just in the GW systems - all people from tabletop gaming seem to find their way to this article lol.

In danger of thread-necro but I just went through this process on my case this month. Not sure if there's been small manufacturing differences or perhaps just a regional thing (US) but I had to use 1/4 inch (6mm for those folks using a proper measuring system ) to work. Went through several rounds of sizes and manufacturers before I found one that worked and settled on 6mm 1/4 Inch SRope Cable by uxcell. Came in a 5 pack off Amazon which means you'll actually get left overs, which sucks, but is what it is. Hopefully this may sidestep troubles for those that attempt after me.

Thanks for the heads up! Don't worry about the necro, this is something that gets finer with age. Not sure if you know, but the thead linked below has a lot of discussion. Maybe you could post your info there too? Glad it worked out for you! Any chance for pics?

At least you could cite the source from where the idea was put out to put the crystals. That article has been going around the web for 6 years.

Recently was asked about cutting the sheets I used in my cases (again in US which may of had some regional manufacturing differences, maybe not). Figure that I'd share it here as well. To save on costs I went with cut acrylic sheets from TAP Plastics (plenty of suppliers so shop around) but this should work fine for glass. The dimensions I used (again, stupid US with fake measurement systems) were

11-3/4" Wide
15-1/8" Long
I did two different thicknesses as I had to deal with both metal and plastics. The thinner made me worry a bit after I put it in for really heavy stuff.
1/8 and 1/4" Thickness

Again, might help someone out there
