Hey guys.

So this is a new project for me.

I wanted to have a unique looking DE army, and I figured that the Dryad parts would make for good banner poles and base decoration.

I set about assembling my first unit of DE Kabalite Warriors while thinking on a theme that would take advantage of the range currently available.

I settled on a 50/50 mix of Wyches and Kabalite affiliated warriors. Each half of the army would be led by a Succubus and an Archon respectively.

These two would be a bickering married couple looking to get the other killed in battle, so should make for some enjoyable games to find out who gets to keep the summer house on Commorragh and the new Raider parked in the Driveway.

So far I have only assembled 1 unit of warriors, and did some test models.

Wyches and an Archon (or Succubus?) on the way soon.

Let me know what you think :3

Also - I developed an obsession with trying to find an army I could paint orange.

this explains my choice in spot colour.

Test model #1:

Working out the armour scheme.

Test model #2:

Skin tone test and also working out the process to batch paint.

Owl test model #3 WIP:

Assembled unit:

Let me know what you think.

Also the macro mode on this camera has shown me how sloppy my line work is - so I will be retouching that.

I'm sure with counselling you will come to forgive me.

That owl is fething amazing.

I love it. I love this idea, more owls. Please. I need this.

This concept has the potential to be a mash up of Fantasy 40K Awesomeness. Perhaps, I am excited easily, but I do like this.

ed: added something a bit more constructive.

I like the mix of corpse trees and models. I thought those branches were just on the bases, but you're integrating them in as backpacks!

These are some really cool DE. Like the basing scheme a lot and the owl is pretty awesome too.

Really nice concept. Pretty different to your usual DE. Are you going to introduce Wracks or Grotesques as you could make some very cool dryad mix ups with them units.

nice to see someone else using the dryad bits. I am using the less foresty dryads as infected wraithbone wracks. I am also having a squad of warriors with a few dryad heads and arms as those that have willingly taken on the wraithbone virus.

Very interesting concept and good job on the painting... Where do you get your tree branches from?

I like your bickering married couple idea. Maybe they could have some wayward "teenage" kids, one of which is a Reaver, always riding his bike too fast (and making his momma worry!) and a daughter hanging out with "the wrong crowd" (i.e., Hellions) Maybe even a "crazy grandpa/uncle" Haemonculus. The possibilities are endless.

And I concur about the Owl. That is the coolest little accessory I have seen so far on the new DE (or anything in a while really) I have a raven (from WHFB Empire I think?) that will now be put to use in a similar way. Thanks for the idea (that I'm stealing shamelessly! )

Thanks broheim - I spent some time working on my new Wyches today. Looking very nice - pictures to come.

Gotta thank Knightley (Check out his Gray Nights in gallery) for his generosity for getting this unit off the ground. Be excited because they are leaping from branches. gotta love kitbash

Also on an incidental note - I need some help coming up with my Wych cult name, as well as the names for my Archon and my Succubus married couple. Obviously the surname would have to be the same, or perhaps hyphenated?!

She's too independent to just flat give up her last name maybe?

Marriage of convenience... Mandrake bastard children, or maybe the archon had a mistress that Succy killed?

Jealous rage much?

So aside from the information given - I figure that this family unit has a holiday home in a wonderful area of the Webway called the Corpse Forest. Think Brothers Grimm only ... er... better? Less mermaids and stuff.

In this forest they keep their maid estates as well as a menagerie of sub humans and warp creature (cue the Khymera.

Their wayward Daughter rides her Jetbike through the crystaline forests with some bad friends she has fallen in with (a lovely gang of hoodlums arranged by Mother to make Pop-Pop angry )

So yea - welcome to dysfunction.

Lay some names on me.

As promised I give you the first wave of the Cult of the Corpse Light.

I figure these wyches have been training in amongst the forest so long their reputation has reached that of Will-o-wisps, or also known as Corpse Lights.

They lure people into the forests and bequile them into leaving the relative safety of the path. (The path is a metaphor kids.)

Once their victims are out of sight they are silently killed... think Velociraptor or Ninja.

Looks good, not sure I like the name of the unit though, the term "light" doesn't have enough dark connotations with it.

But the word 'corpse' just balances out the lightness of it. It's a lightness but it is 'wrong'.

I like them, particularly the one leaping forwards with the razorflail. They're a really character filled unit.

So you have all these dryad bits just lying around spare? O_o

Wooohooo....
I really love those.
Concerning the dynamic and awesome poses, and the modelling in general these are the best Dark Eldar I have seen yet.
Especially this guy here. He is excellent.
Jumping right into ones face.

BUT...
This one fails.
He looks like he is falling over. What about making his right arm pointing forward somehow?

I agree with Enzephalon, that last one seems to be balanced in the wrong way, changing this flail arm to perhaps a sword/fist dagger might give a more dynamic pose?

Ok,

I have been unhappy with the extreme highlight colourscheme, both in implementation and look on the model - so I have decided to take 2 steps back and stick to painting in a style I am comfortable and well versed in.

These are a work in progress and you will see a highlight of scaly green and then possibly a 70/30 mix of scaly and codex grey.

tell me what you think.

Batch painted unit to date, WIP"

Previous scheme - to be adjusted (armour only):

Highlighting and tabard to be completed - but this is the basic look:

I like them both in their own ways.

I like the bright highlights on the one though it looks a little off on the helmet, and I like the muted one but it looks a bit too dark for me. I'm gonna stand firm and say I'm gonna be absolutely no help on this one. Sorry.

Mmm without the extreme edge highlights, you lose a lot of the definition and sharpness on the armour that makes them what they are.

I believe that the one on the right is the new one that WIP the one on the right is the old style.

Ithink the brighter highlights define the armour better but is still too light. Why not use a green wash to knock it down a bit in brightness and then you should have a good middle ground, not too dark and not too bright.

The owls are from the WE Dryads kit as my housemate uses them in a similar way to this with her wood elves.
