Hey guys, I've had a couple of requests on how I made my hover bikes.

I've just finished my second bike and took as many photos as I could take while making the model.

Bits

This shows all the Games Workshop model parts I use

This shows all the plasticard bits I use as well

All card is 1mm thick card stock

1: 7mm x 10mm (need 2)
2: 11mm x 5mm (need 2)
3: 10mm x 10mm (need 2)
4: 14mm x 27mm
6: 8mm x 5mm
7: 8mm x 11mm
8: 12mm x 13mm
Front Vents: 10mm x 2.5mm (needed about 11 of them)
Bottom Vents: 8mm x 1mm (need 10)
Wings: 10mmx 13mm
Front vent covers: 15mm x 2mm (need 2) and 13mm x 2mm
*Please note there are others I needed to make as I got towards the end and Ill do my best to remember to include the sizings*

Bits used from jump back

Cutting.

The wings will currently be a square, I use the dimensions of 10mm x 13mm x 6mm with there being only one cut line allowing the wing to have a 90 degree on the trailing edge

Removing the front bits that are no longer required

and

Doing the same with the rear

(optional) Removal of skull so the side arm can sit on the side of the tank

With this below picture, I keep the offcuts from the top to fit in later the size of the small triangles *should* be about 1mm x 10mm with the longer part being at the longest edge of the card

The guns

Gluing

The easier bits.

(optional) Handlebars

(optional) Rear stowage boxes

I use the height of one standard base as the height to give the wings a downward angle.

The front vents are stacked on each other with a 0.5mm gap to allow the stack to step

the vent is then put into the hole at the front, the Front vent covers are then applied.

*you can cut off the squareness once the glue is dried*

The bottom vanes are applied with a 1mm gap between them

With this next pic, I've labeled the panels with the numbers from the top to match it all up (you can see the triangle pieces from the bottom plate cut offs

Bits number 6 and 7 are glued together and number 7 is cut from the top downward on an angle toward the front of the front housing

This picture needs some explaining. The round part is a shell casing from a vindicator round with no bullet on the end, the half round is from a tank commander legs when he is standing out of the hatch (its from the bit that sits under the hatch surround). I had to make a bit of plastic card to fit in the gap between the two number 1's so that is formed a single flat piece at the back, you can fill this void however you choose.

The next pic is the Bottom Vents glued onto the bottom

Explaining this one. The rear fin is 12mm x 8mm with a half circle cut from the edge of the back of the bike to the top of the engines (this worked out to be the size of my half round file) Guitar string was cut at about 5mm or 6mm dependent on how much Green stuff you want to use (at this point I tend to trim up and overhanging card and sand/file and flatten any sticking out bits.

Glue on the guns and side bits

Final touch up's

This shows the Green stuff completed

Light boxed bike

That's my guide.

Please do let me know if I've not explained something or missed something and I would be happy to clarify and/or edit this if need be. Please also comment on my WIP blog over here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/349329.page

@TNM - Thank you

@adeptus_mechanicus_1 - I completely agree with you that there are much quicker and cheaper ways, those were the first options I looked at when deciding on do I want to do a hover bike, if so how much time/money do I want to spend on it.

I ended up deciding to try make one just with bits I had around the place. Having made one I decided to post to see what else I could have done better and the result was the new back end, there have been some who wanted to know how it was done and thus the birth of the how to

Thank you however for you comments they are appreciated very much.

@Graven - Cheers bud!

@Tauzor - I hope you do make some I'd like to see your take on the bikes and what you can do with it.

@Retrias - hover bikes need to be in a DA force, go for it!

@Maxim - I'm stoked to have got you there twice please do let me know if you need any advice with making one, I'd be happy to help out.

@John - Thanks, feel free to use the front I came up with to finish your bikes, I'd be honored if you did.

@Hazzer - Truth be told I wanted to make 3 bikes, so I poured through my bits box for things I had 3 or 6 of just so I didnt run out. You should do the same and see what happens

@Stonned - Thank you, I look forward to seeing your results in due time.

@Superspud - Cheers for your comments!

@Supagigashoota - Thank you, I would be interested in what improvements you could suggest? feel free to PM me them and I'll see what I can do.

@Palehorse - Thanks man.

More pics of some Bikes are in order I think.
