People have said that she's the most effective of assassins for "a word in your ear" and the polymorphine drug, but really, the neural shredder is incredible against vehicles. Basically, she can render one or two vehicles useless all game! I'm not sure, but I think it might even work against a monolith...

Example: yesterday, my mech guard went up against an armored company. The guy did a standard wall 'o russes and began advancing up one of my flanks (the one with all of the infantry). On my second turn, the callidus showed up and I stuck her right behind the russes and shredded away. In the end four of his tanks never shot (!) and three of those moved once.

The callidus is the best assassin out there.

Doesn't do anything against a Monolith, since the brick ignores crew stunned and crew shaken.

But the callidus is the one that can be the most effective for points. The only two I ever take are the Callidus and the Eversor.

If you're shooting a vehicle with the shredder, you better make sure that no one else has or can get Line of sight to you or else the Calidus is toast. With only 2 wounds and a 4+ save, she'll fall over to a squad rapid firing her. She needs to be in combat where she's invulnerable to shooting.

Though she can do a number on Basilisks (+1 to the damage roll so she can get a weapon destroyed) and 2 rolls.

However, against a normal vehicle, 120 points isn't worth keeping it from shooting for 1 turn.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

The best use for the Callidus Assassin is to sit in your case so you can spend the 183 points and two FOC slots on something more worthwhile. However, if you must take one, go and fight something that can't fight back, like a small Dev unit or an Ethereal. Or find a big unit of Vypers/Warwalkers/etc. and keep 'em stunned all game. I love doing that to vehicle squadrons...

The Calidus rocks when used properly. My Daemonhunter's army never leaves home without her. She almost always kills more than her 120 point cost, barring bad rolls. The trick is target selection, and vehicles are not the way to go unless they're your only target (The only exception to the rule would be an IF basilisk, and even that's questionable).

Two things you never go after are Assault units and vehicles. Almost everything else is fair game. This is beyond the 'word in your ear' ability.

At a tournament last weekend, mine rocked so much that I'm actually wondering if she's cheesey and needs to be dropped from my list.

Game 1, she kept a DH inquisitor lord special character busy and killed all his retinue.

Game 2, she prevented a Whirlwind and a Predator busy all game and reduced a 5-man tactical plasma squad to a lone model.

Game 3 she took out a unit of Terminators by herself.

In a pickup game afterwards, she kept a sentinel and Basilisk from shooting all game.

Beware though of vehicles with Extra Armor, they might just get away!

The would definitely get away. Though I'm surprised you didn't kill the Basilisk. Neural Shredder can actually do real damage to an open-topped vehicle.

As for the termies...You must have gotten lucky.

Thanks everyone for posting. All of you commenting on how it would be better to target "soft" HS units are very much in the right; unfortunately, armored companies tend to be light on infantry, so her primary use was nerfed.

HBMC: Yes, I'd rather spend those points on a demolisher, but in my area (ah, those fateful last words uttered before the total discredit of the poster...) we play that mystics CAN shoot at drop pods, which are copious. Given that I'm already taking the inquisitor, I'm losing 120 points and an elites slot. My choices were thus 1) buy another hellhound (for which I have no FO slots) and 2) buy an enclosed bassalisk (which I hate with every fiber of my being). If I were to take this on the road, sure, I'd get a demolisher and more RR, but I just thought the dakka community at large would be amused by some new-fangled device holding up a bunch of russes for the entire game.

cheers
