I only recently discovered 40K. A friend of mine gave me this kit because he thought I would like it. I most certainly did. The construction was not problem at all, but I was very daunted by the thought of painting something so small. I worked on painting him over two days. I don't know how he measures up to some of the other work on here but I am pretty happy with the way he turned out. So what do you think. Like I said this was my first experience with 40K, and I an open to all input and sugestions. Thanks.

Pretty darn nice. Even just painting only where you meant to puts you quite a bit ahead of my very first guys. I like the way you made the metal more than just monotone and rusty looking, though I gotta say I think that the green seems a bit too dull so you might want to brighten it up. All in all I'd say nice job.

Nice to see more necrons on here
Your mini looks really nice, but the green does seem a bit dull, maybe a highlight or two would improve it.

I like that the green is dull. Necrons are supposed to be a million years old or so. It's nice to see them painted all rusty rather than shiny silver. Many races in 40k are reinterpretations of fantasy races and the Necrons are very much Tomb Kings of Khemri. I'd really like to see more people paint them in the spirit (pun intended) of an undead army.

That looks really quite nice and in keeping with the ancient theme of the necrons I think you've done a good job!

For a first attempt thats awesome
I like the fact it weathered/rusty, necrons can look horribly boring and monotone when you just slap on boltgun metal and a wash.

Thanks for the input guys. I wanted it to look aged and weathered. I think I got the age pretty good, but I need to work on the weathered. As to the brighter green. Which green are you talking about? The regular green wash I added to the chest area, the green I used to weather the copper, or the green of the gauss weapon? The gauss weapon is not as bright as I had hoped. It is a custom cast of the heavy destroyer gun, so it the shoulder weapon. That is why the hoses, energy box at the back, and the tip of the shoulder gun are transparent. In future casts I will use a different dye in the mix for a more vivid green.

Are those the standard green rods that came with the model or did you get new stuff?

I very much like this model. It is well done. The rust effect is particularly good. Well done.

No I wanted to be able to upgrade a standard destroyer more easily so I molded it.

I like the subtle green streaking. Verdigris doesn't always manifest immediately as the sort of chalky mint green (e.g. Statue of Liberty) or vibrant aquamarine that usually comes to mind. It's refreshing to see someone tackle aged copper without defaulting to the standard Hawk Turwoise wash.

I disagree with people saying about the green, it loomks perfect as it is, I see what you are trying to do with it, it looks like copper that is oxidising and it turning to that greenish colour, it looks pretty awesome, buy a whole punch, paint them put them on here and learn to battle Looking forward to any more pictures you might throw on here!

It's oxidized copper? I thought it was meant to be some kind of glow effect?

Its not even close to oxidized copper green.

I just don't like turquoise. There are a lot of different patinas that can be obtained with copper, so I decided to go with a different one.

Really nice! The depth is wonderful, the effect works wonders. The contrast level is pretty lacking, however...perhaps a few more subtle highlights, to match the scheme?

If you have a look at the light wash on the model.... it's got a green coming through it like... what copper looks like when it starts to oxidise... not the green glow of the gun :S I assume this is the effect he was going for.

Like I said this was my first experience with 40K

if this is an example of your first experience with 40K, then you are well on your way to being a top painter. hell it's better than a lot of my first attempt stuff. maybe this suggestion will give you something else to work with, in doing a nurgle theme fantasy army i took green ink and mixed it very lightly with mithril silver, which gave the silver a green patina like your wash did, try mixing the green ink and the copper and see what happens. At any rate, an A+ job as far as i'm concerned, it's different from a lot of other Necron armies out there and different is good in my book as different stands out more.

I picked up some Scorpion Green yesterday. I am going to give a try using that as the base coat on my next model. I have been playing the Dark Crusade game, and I like how the energy effect shows through between the plates. I will see if I can get that to work. This will be the first time using citidel paints, how thin should make it? The above mini was painted using only Walmart Applebarrel brand craft acrylics.

Not on their own, but they would under a black light. They are cast in transparent green, a little light for my taste, but it works ok. I am working on finding a different dye to use, so I can get a more vibrant color. Here they are prior to painting.
