Hardened Veteran Guardsman

Hi again,

Just finished another two tanks for my guards and this time I did something different. Two tanks with the same color scheme!
There's a backstory to them (and to why everything looks different) if anyone's interested.

As usual, any and all input is very welcome since I try to take these opportunities to take a closer look on the models through other people's eyes.

The pipes look strangely clean but the wear and tear on the rest is top notch. Good work

Oil paint weathering?

Thanks for the input, and yes, it's oil paint wathering. Burnt Umber mixed with generous amount of gloss picture varnish. I wanted to get an oily greasy look around the recoil dampeners and ammo feed. Not too sure I was able to pull it off but it looks ok. I just wonder what'll happen when I hit it with dull varnish as I seal the model.

So, to recap. The barrels need another go-over, which is really good 'cause I'd forgotten about them. Anything else?

Thanks.

The vehicle looks awesome, but form the pictures it looks like you rushed the crew. It may just be the pictures though. It deffenately looks like its seen the battlefield.

I have to agree with Lost soul, the only thing that is ruining the image is the fact it looks like the crew is a little.... one colour, it can be a nightmare painting crew on a tank especialy because you are used to paintin so bulky at this point, but I think if you done the crew right it would have looked prefect! (Again might just be the picture )

I'm afraid it's not the picture. The crew is a rush job. Or rather, they are the same as the rest of my infantry, and as there are roughly 200 of them they don't each get a lot of attention. (Although, if you zoom enough on the topmost image you can see the embers of the cigar the gunner has in his mouth. :-D)

I'll go over them and see if I can add some details, dust and additional highlights.

I think that the main problem is that they seem to 'shine' against the really dirty look of the armor they're occupying. They need to be grittier.

Thanks! This is just the kind of feedback I'm looking for!

Keep it coming! :-)

The barrels don't bother me, as most rapid fire weaponry needs a barrel replacement every few thousand rounds or so. But the fact they're missing the hull heavy bolters is a bit weird.

The barrels have been given a dust-over, as has the crew. They now more in line with the rest of the tank. Dirty, that is.

But yeah, I noticed the missing bolters after I took the photos. I thought that if I don't mention it, maybe no one will notice...
They're magnetized so I can switch between bolters and flamers without using a scalpel. I just forgot to attach them prior to the photo shoot.

Just a friendly note: If you're doing sealing and base coating at the same time: MAKE SURE YOU USE THE RIGHT CAN FOR THE RIGHT JOB!!!one!
In my case pure luck made it salvageable. The Chaos Black only hit the lower rear/back on the tank before I noticed and the black 'clouding' it passable as yet more dirt...

Again, thanks all for looking and commenting. It's really, really helpful.
