Hey Guys!

So, I've just finished painting a P-47D Thunderbolt "Norma". They are my favourite WW2 fighter plane. This colour scheme was used in 1944 in the Mediterranean theatre. Its a 1/72 scale Hasegawa kit, the mould is good but the engine cowling didn't fit the best. The pics are not the best...

Anyway, as usual, C&C is appreciated.

Not used to critiquing WWII era scale models on Dakka!

Makes a nice change though - I like the yellow striping; nice and clean, presumably you used masking tape for that? Or is it decals? I can't tell

Anyway, looks good, although my tastes lean towards the more funky camo patterns that they came up with!

Thanks mate! The stripes are decals, its good to know that you couldn't tell. I've been taking a change from Sci-Fi, so there is a stack of tanks, 50s jets, prop planes and even a landing craft waiting for paint.

I love WWII stuff, before I got into gaming I use to build armor and aircraft exclusively....May I make a few suggestions that can drastically increase the quality of your model....

Decals:
Right now it is easy to tell what are decals and what aren't, if the model is still unsealed, take some white vinegar and brush it onto the decals, let it sit for a moment, then take a new fresh exacto-blade and drag it over the decal where the panel lines are, this will allow the decals to contour to the panel line, and the vinegar will soften the decal to conform.

After they have fully dried, go over each decal w/ future floor polish, this will help level the surface between the edge of the decal and the surface of the model....once all of that is dry a hit with some dull coat will really tone it down making it look more natural.

Canopy:
Dip your canopy and all clear parts into a cup full of future floor polish, then set it all a paper towel and cover it so it can dry, the clera coat breaks up the distortion a bit and helps the canopy look more transparent and real.

Other than that I think it looks great! Keep up the good work!

Thank you Redfinger! That is the sort of the critique I'm looking for! I'm definately going to try out your suggestions as soon as I can.
I didn't know vinegar could be used for helping improve decals.
