With such bad feelings running around over this issue I thought I'd stick a funny everyones way to lighten the mood and remind everyone that many of us already have enough models for our gaming and simply put don't need the new shiney whatever they kick out.
So there I was in a strange area, surrounded by many orange skinned things, if alien or diseased people I knew not. Only that that skin tone was not normal for humans to have! And behold a
GW came into view. Being a nosey sort of chap I decided that I'd like to see what standard of models they had in their cabinet's, maybe get some inspiration of my own with odds and sods I have knocking around.
Alas, upon seeing a non regular I was seen as prey for the staff member (hmm that word may have a double meaning here...) who pounced on me with hungry smile while he stalked me. Asking if I gamed was his probing shot, but not being unawares I knew how to head this off. How to tell this hunter politely and without disembowelment that he should find easier prey, my wallet was remaining unmolested by his store! Staring the brave hunter down I told him yes and how long I had been involved in gaming for, mentioning the words of Rogue trader, 2nd edition
40k heyday and the amazing value of a ruleset for £20 in 3rd edition
WHFB with no more need of more army books.
My swipe made him wary, he avoided my attempts to get him to talk of these long forgotten traditions of the past and ancient ways. Still hungry for the contents of my wallet, and probably home contents to sell on ebay to fund the Empire another angle was taken. He tried finding out if I kept up buying stuff for my eldar.
It was then I knew this hunter had to be deterred more forcibly.
I showed my fangs, oh yes. Picking up a dire avenger squad I commented that while the models had changed they were still pretty much the same except that I bought 10 metal ones I still use for £6 when they came out, and asked him just why when I was happy using them should I buy 10 more for over three times that in cheaper materials?
The hunter knew he was outdone, fear shot through his eyes...
Sending him packing I motioned to the poor kids lining up to spend their pocket money at his till and continued looking at models in the stores display before leaving unmolested...
I know, over dramatic, but I hope it has given you guys a smile and taught you a valuable lesson. Keep hold of your stuff, strip the paint off if you like and repaint it, but remember you don't have to keep buying. When more do the same we shall see the prices decrease.
Right I'm off to smoke now, at least that releases happy chemicals in my brain instead of giving me buyers remorse
