I have created a custom marine chapter called the Iron Lions. This list is 1850 points, I would like general opinions.

The Iron Lions are a minor divergent chapter with the traits Honor the "Wisdom of the Ancients" and "We Stand Alone".  The Iron Lions are famed for their mastery of dreadnought technology, many of their officers ending their service in one, and because of this, seldom is an Iron Lions cohort seen without a techmarine.  Due to their technical prowess, the Iron Lions tend to look on other chapters, and especially other Imperial Ecliesarchy troops as superstitious and uneducated, hence they fight alone.  List follows:

Commander with powersword and bolt pistol

Techmarine with servo harness and 4 regular servitors

5x Tac squad (6) with Rocket Launcher

5x Venerable dreadnought with extra armor, assault cannon and storm bolter

3x Landspeeder Typhoon (2)

Not a whole lotta kick to kill high armour things like Monliths/LR's. Like the fluff though.

Your right about the lith, but ACs handle land raiders just fine. Still, it might not be unreasonable to find the points to upgrade missiles to LCs.

Typhoons, eh. Have you played those yet? I'm a little curious about how well they do.

I'd put in another vote for lascannon, unless you absolutely can't find those twenty-five points or don't want to sink more cash into figures. I'd also vote for missile launchers on a couple of your dreads, with the same caveat. The extra range could be nice, and the different kinds of missiles complement the assault cannon regardless of its target.

Also, how are you planning on playing your techmarine?  "Templing" in base-to-base behind three of your dreads (so the one with the unlucky reroll gets a bandaid)  seems the best way to me, but I'm curious about what your actual thoughts are on picking him, aside from his wet nose and fluffy coat.

edit -  it would be pretty easy for you to put a missile launcher on four of your dreadnoughts and upgrade all your tactical squad missile launchers to lascannon - all you'd have to do is have your Master check his power sword and bolt pistol at the door.

When soldiers think, it's called routing.

Rending assault cannons are better than lascannons for Anti Armor.  I put it to the test in play.  I pealed open a deathguard landraider and killed everything in it in a single turn with a fraction of this army.

Several of my opponents, especially that one, made the same mistake you wrote here.

...find the points to upgrade missiles to LCs.

Noted, my test games showed similarly, thanks.

Yes, they are amazing, even against marines, furthermore they almost never yield any VPs as they have to be entirely destroyed.

Noted. Concur.

I'd also vote for missile launchers on a couple of your dreads, with the same caveat. The extra range could be nice, and the different kinds of missiles complement the assault cannon regardless of its target.

I would consider it, if it was free, trading out the assault capability and S10 just isnt worth paying for.  Besides a storm bolter in that arm doesnt cost aything extra, many people are surprised to see 6 dice come out of a standard dreadnought. The range is the only issue for me, but thats what the infantry squads are for.

Templed, precisely, you are an experienced player.  Ultimately he is a fluffy choice, I did 6 dreads, but wanted to add some variety, and with the extra armor and venerable he makes a nice addition.  In the test games he only repaired 2 immobilized results, but those were both VP games, so it mattered a lot.

Not really thats not near enough points.  I'd have to leave a squad or a dread at home.

Hmm, unless my arithmetic is off:

Master with powersword and bolt pistol =91

Techmarine with servo harness and 4 regular servitors =140

5x Tac squad (6) with Rocket Launcher =100x5

5x Venerable dreadnought with extra armor, assault cannon and storm bolter =130x5

3x Landspeeder Typhoon (2) =70x6

=1801 = 1785 w/o power sword and bolt pistol
+25 (upgrade each tactical squad) = 1810
+40 (upgrade 4 dreadnoughts to missile launcher) =1850

should be doable. You'd still have four powerfist attacks for close combat between the remaining un-upgraded dreadnought and the Techmarine (ok, he doesn't REALLY count as two power fist attack, but they are hanging off his back nevertheless)

When soldiers think, it's called routing.

You can only have three venerable dreads, right? so 3 Ven plus two regular.

No, "Honor the Wisdom of the Ancients" removes the zero to one restriction for the dread entry and allows them to be taken as heavy and elite choices.  6 could be played legally.  Check your dex.

I built a 6 dreadnought marine army around this concept.  I dont entirely care for it at this point (as a tourney army) because of escalation missions (especially with the new GT rules out).  In a recent tourney I almost lost a game because all my dreads had to start off table, and they only have 24 inch ranges.  Perhaps I should consider the missile launcher add on combo.

BTW I believe that typhoons are 80 points each, not 70.  I'll check my dex.

20 for the upgrade. Assault cannon are 30. If it was 30 for the upgrade, you would have been 11 points over.
