While at work today I came up with the following list. It had a hammerhead but thanks to some opinions from a veteran Tau player (and a little of my own realization), no tanks is better than 1 target. HQ: Shas'el 93pts Plasma, twin missile pod, HW target lock ELITE: Crisis Team 174pts 3 suits Twin plasma and blacksun filters TROOPS: 12 Fire Warriors 120pts 12 Fire Warriors 120pts 12 Fire Warriors 120pts 12 Fire Warriors 120pts 12 Fire Warriors 120pts HEAVY: Broadside Squad 200pts 1 suit with Advanced stablization system, Shas'vre with A.S.S. and 2x Shield Drones Broadside Squad 200pts 1 suit with Advanced stablization system, Shas'vre with A.S.S. and 2x Shield Drones Broadside Squad 160pts 2 suits with Advanced stablization system 1427 Thoughts: Drop down to 1 plasma, add missile and target lock on the crisis suits. Thats about all I can think of. Questions comments criticisms?

By target lock, do you mean the wargear that allows you to shoot multiple weapons? That would be the multi-tracker. Target lock allows the so equipped model to target a different something than the unit he is in when firing.(so a lone Shas'el would not benefit at all)
I don't know about loading up on non-mech firewarriors, especially without the shas'ui. One good volley from an enemy unit's heavy weapons or a landspeeder will send them packing. Vulnerable to the BOO but then again what isn't in a static Tau force.
I'm sure a bamillion plus half people will tell you to get stealth suits, but If you don't have them in a 1500 list you probably don't have the models, right? You don't particularly need them if you get a good amount of crisis suits on the table, but they are immensely useful in a max unit or two.
As for your crisis suit thought(and if I interpreted what you call a targetlock correctly) then I think that configuration is labeled "Deathrain" and is well thought of on Dakka. I have used it myself several times and when my dice weren't bunk it was fairly reliable.
Other thoughts. Kroot are great. A unit of straight up 20 kroot costs (7x20) 140 points. Stick more than half of them in terrain for their lovely woody cover save bonus(easier when infiltrating) and you can put a respectable 20 strength 4 bs 3 shots a turn at anything within 24 inches, or 40 within rapid fire range. Another extremely useful unit in my opinion, just don't expect them to fair too well in hand to hand with better than average initiative anybody or allow them to be fired on without the cover save.

What are you talking about? They're Space Marines, which are heroic. They need to be able to do all the heroic stuff. They fight aliens and don't afraid of anything. -Orkeosarus

It's called "torgoch" not "deathrain" Railguns, it's aka "fireknife-7".
Very static list. It might benefit a lot from markerlights, I really don't know.

New Tau or not, this list is too static for my liking. A deep striking squad of assault marines, a drop pod of terminators, if anything gets behind your fire lines, your entire army is gone. Take it from a guy who used to play static. Drop some firewarriors (squads not models) and maybe off a broadside team for devilfishes and hammerheads. That way you have mobility and flexibility in your army, instead of standing and shooting.

Actually, I would say that this is a good thing.
I advise avoiding White Dward "tactics" as much as possible.

In any case I agree with orchewer. I had played a static list extensively and the game was essentially over once anything, and I mean anything, got into charge range. Firewarriors can't exactly run away from assault marines or hormagaunts that eat up a fellow squad to shoot them later. An assault marine heavy list was an uphill struggle at best, as the opponent simply has to use cover to move huge numbers of the buggers up the table and into your lines before you can kill most of them, then the game is up. Doesn't even have to drop pod anything on most boards, however that will ruin you too.
The only thing that differs in my book is that I can never rely on the hammerhead to even hit with his railgun, so I usually use broadsides with a kroot mob somewhere nearby, and maneuver around with that as an anchor.

Hey Foda... list looks pretty cool! The main thing that jumped out at me, was that it might have a hard time dealing with objective based missions. You don't have any really mobile units that could quickly grab or contest objectives... you have lots of firewizzles (inside joke), but they only move 6" a turn, and by moving them, kills their main advantage of having a long range S5 weapon. I'm not a tau expert by any stretch, but that is the main thing I noticed... take from what it what you will... regardless, I look forward to seeing you get this army finished... your modeling plans for it are very interesting See ya this wednesday, or this weekend.. ~G
