Hello Dakka, this isn't my first post but it is my first topic.
So this thread I'm going to mirror over from the one I started on BnC a little while ago, the photography isn't great so I'm going to try to retake a lot of my completed model photos with a green background and see how it shakes out. I also edited in Powerpoint so Ill have to go back and do it in Adobe.
Unlike my thread on BnC I can include non power armour stuff. So I hope to post pics of my Eldar (still basically on sprue since I bought the army box on launch...how many years ago) which is a wild rider host. I'm trying to brainstorm a non predominantly red or black version of Saim Hann...ideas are appreciated;so far I have Grey with Red-orange but thats more or less Yme Loc. I'm slowly working on my Crimson Fists, who always take second chair to my Bloodies. And I have some Orks from AoBR that I bought to get my GF playing that I will probably paint and post as I grow tired of red...like I am right now.
TO THE PICS!
First up is a complete Army photo of all my currently assembled and in various stages of completion models, just for BA. The other day I was showing a friend some of my stuff and realized I have about three storage trunks full of unassembled models. The quality is a little dodgey but it's a big shot.

next up is my current HQ, he remains unbased as I painted him for a local tourny not long after the codex came out and I wasnt sure if he would stay...he has and I just havent gotten around to it.

then comes my Honor Guard, these guys are still very much WIP with about 4 different kinds of gold helmet and no varnish, save the priest.

My first Assault Squad was my color test for the whole army, specifically the SGT. I still use him to compare color.

Second RAS

Third RAS

I painted up Astorath as a display model since i have little or no intention of playing him, but hated GWs color choices on him.

So as you can see a photographer I am not. But I'm working on it. Up on the block are pictures of an old skool Vindi I finished up a couple weeks ago, Seth, and a Flesh Tearer model I did as a color test for a small FT contingent in my large BA army. I also did a sort of quick step by step of another FT that tragically frosted when I varnished it. I'll post them anyways, but there is no rescuing this one. After future and another hit of dullcote its color is noticably off. I'll post those later tonight.
For the future I have solidified my gold so the honor guard will get a touch up and varnish. I dont know if anyone else can tell but the yellow on my assaults varies; theres some that are sunburst, some golden, and some iyandyn. I finally landed on a yellow recipie too so Ill be going back to those too...after vehicles.

C&C always welcome.
Auston

looking for some opinions on an alternative color for my wild rider host. The options are no combinations that include a combination of red/black/and white.

This is my idea.
More than a touch of red came of my fingers onto the minty green but I think I like it, I just have to seal before handling

Thoughts?

I was almost tempted to leave it all catachan green and paint the red strip but thats how I plan to do my DAs in the distant future.

Been working more on eldar bike and soliciting advise on the P&M forum. I landed on a Magenta color. Today I worked on 3 bikes simotanously. 2 regular and 1 shrieker. I basecoated the hood and wings magenta, highlighted the edges in a lighter magenta and washed the whole thing. The engine component was sprayed gunmetal and washed black. I flipped through the Eldar codex for ideas and landed on a dark blue and turquoise for gems. Still have riders to assemble and paint and detailing the engine part. I hope to have my first squad of bikers done by next weekend.

Nice.

Although I think kantor looks a bit, er, dark.

I love the eldar scheme, very original. I mean the old grey washed almost to black then glossed is pretty, but it gets boring, and this magenta scheme looks far cooler. I could see dark eldar in a similar scheme.

Thank you
Kantor IS dark, darker than the other one which is what I was going for, I also can't knock the shine off him. Which is REALLY pissing me off. But I really am aiming for a darker CF than a lot of what I see out there. More like the captain on the back cover of the 3ed SM codex.

I do believe my test model is done. I need to brainstorm an environment for the bases, and I do believe next time I'll be a little lighter on the wash and varnish between major steps.

I'm also pretty sure that the shieker body does not fit the legs at all, there is a gap that may be apparent in the pics. I think most or all of the riders will be guardian torsos.

I prefer the dark purple, it suits Eldar to more of a degree. Also it saves the sniggers of thy opponents.

I'm thinking of making the riders a yellow ochre color, think snakebite leather with bubonic brown as highlights. Break up the solid block of purple. Being as I don't have any dismounts it should still look uniform.

Not a whole lot done this weekend, RL intrudes. I did manage to get 10 wing/lower body portions cleaned primed and painted. They have a little texture to them but I'm more worried about just completing them than having them be perfect, so forward. Some wings are not separating from the engine section so some creative masking will be necessary.

No pictures but I did some work on a BA Captain for my TF. I think I'll be purchasing a few of these for cutting lightning claws off of. I prefer the older style lightning claws so between those and the metal terminator arms I have a bunch of cutting ahead.

After a long hiatus I have finally started back into my piles of plastic and metal; and resurrected this thread with dark magic. I’m nearly done with 3 Flesh Tearers Tactical Marines which once the bases are complete will only be waiting on some 3D printed chapter markings. And after (checks watch) only 20 years I”be finally put paint on the Mephiston I bought way back in 3e. He’s been primed with Vallejos German Red Brown and shot with Mecha Color red which seems to be the closest to the OOP Blood Red of the rest of my army. I’ve started to block him in and anticipate he’ll be done tomorrow so long as a couple paints I’m expecting in the mail arrive.

I finished Mephiston and took pictures in my booth...and in editing noticed that dust from sanding his pin down was on the rim...ooops.

I posted these Orks in the P&M topic I started but they were originally part of this PMB so Ill move the white balanced pictures here. As well as a picture of my whole Ork Army thus far.

Next up is finishing the three FT with water effect bases and this tactical squad which was basecoated with GWs blood red spray in like...2005. Because I'm mostly modeling instead of gaming now, They'll get upgraded from the minimum playable standard they've lived at since 4e to something that is more proper for my display case. although my skill level is at best: better than average table top, anything beyond that is purely an accident.

I’m loving the bright red blood angels, nice and retro, well worth the thread resurrection! The Orks look great too, really eclectic mix of colours but some linkages giving them a ragtag mob feel.

Thank you.

I finished my AOBR test models for my FT with 32mm swamp bases. A Couple of bubbles in my water effect are annoying and I'll have to varnish again with a super flat to knock down the sheen on the black. Also I finished my BA Tactical Squad, the rims need to be blacked and then they all need varnish but I'm pretty happy with this clutch of red. I can see through the macro lens they need to be dusted off too. The heavy bolter marine's head is magnetized so he can be a devastator or tactical marine. I only made the blue head so far.

My Next project is this little clutch of Librarians. The axe wielding standing libby will have the army magnetized so it can function in more than one chapter.

I painted up a Mk1 predator I got second hand years ago. This was back when they only came with a single gun. I don't even remember if it was an Autocannon or not; this one always had these lascannons glued to it.

This Librarian has always been one of my favorite sculpts from GWs I think it turned out well

This is from the Space Hulk game from either 2008 I think. I'll put it on a permanent base when I figure out a unified scheme for the Space hulk set.

Nice work on the librarians, the bright red works so well with the blue! It’s cool seeing a proper old school Blood Angels scheme on the old school predator! I’m pretty sure it had an auto cannon on the turret originally. I think they had lascannons on round sponsons too.

Thank you! I’m just mostly trying to match my Army together as it was painted in spurts and starts from the 90s on. I still have one of the Mk1 preds in cello when I open it I’ll likely cast the sponsons. Or if I don’t like them I’ll use the pewter upgrade kit from the later generation Mk1 pred. These kits have been OOP for so long I don’t see another way to get the pieces.

My lot for today is to fix some of the over weathering on one of these razorbacks. And sort of color modulating it up. I think it’s painted in Vallejo Flat Red; a color I like a lot and was moving towards in 2013. I’m pitching back more towards my older models in Blood Red which I’m using Mecha Color Red. I also foolishly didn’t assemble these with tracks on; so I had to mount the track pieces to cocktail sticks and paint them black. I also finished this Assault Cannon for a Crusader I put together when I really liked the shooting bullet effect. Plus a couple of Heavy Bolter turrets and a Las/Plas conversion turret.

That’s a lot of cocktail sticks! . Both reds look good, but the mecha really hits me in the nostalgia! That Mk1 Predator would fetch a pretty penny on eBay, but I hope you get round to adding it to your motor pool

I took a whole army shot of my current BA assembled or mostly assembled models. I've never gotten an army photo to look decent and this is no exception.

These land raiders have been slumming unpainted since like 2006. the standard pattern LR had a rough primer coat that ended up leaving the surface rough. The crusader was not primed at all. The surface of the crusader is much smoother, and despite how fiddily the hurricane bolter sponsons are they've held up rattling around in boxes for over a decade and a half really well. Only one bolter pair fell off and had to be reattached. I'm thinking they were epoxied in place instead of super glued; thats traditionally been my solution for troublesome pewter. I only oversprayed whatever base coat was there; the sponsons I airbrushed with gunmetal and red over a fairly glossy black. Its basically complete minus some dust and shavings i missed.

The crusader I airbrushed the frag launchers and bolters gunmetal and the body I primed German Red Brown and Red. the finish is much smoother. I have two more pewter crusaders to put together so hopefully the quality improves as I work on more vehicles.

I also put a base coat on what will be a Flesh Tearers Predator. Im thinking it will get a ton of black and copper details and a more worn and dirty feel than my BAs. My FTs are swamp based I'm not sure how much that will reflect on this tank

Sort of jumping around. I saw a tail sticking out of the door of my houses crawl space a couple days ago and ended up digging three kittens out. It’s generally easier to work on character minis when I can get called away any moment than vehicles. I did get some work done on my FT predator with the rivets and other copper bits blocked out and the black based. I also finished my Space Hulk SGT Lorenzo. I had to do some sanding to get the feet flat in the base I built; man I forgot how HARD the red plastic in the SH set is.

His base was weird for sure but as hard as the plastic is the rest may stay on their base sections and I’ll incorporate them into the basing. Especially since one of them is modeled ripping the floor up.

This will be my last post for awhile; I have to go into quarantine for work this weekend and then travel for a few months. But I’ll be returning to this project when I’m back now that everything’s out again.
For now I’m nearly done with the FT Predator. I added some hair to the fairly bland bare techmarine head. And with hair they actually have a lot of character. So I did a few more. I also fixed the hand I cut off the AOBR lieutenant; I can’t even remember why I cut it off. I also gave him a little hair.

My plan for these heads is something along the lines of Space Crusade/2e

G'day mate,

Lovely to see some plastic getting its butt kicked in the long war!

Really nice to see the firstborn marines getting some love in here, even down to some delicate hairdos! Well done on getting back into the swing of things man, looks like things have really picked up this year.

I know it's old news now but I'm in love with that pink/ochre Eldar scheme and I am secretly hoping we see more of that at some point.

How brilliant is the old art? Can't wait to see you bring it to life. Thanks for sharing!

t z you are k
