Ok, it has been a long time since I have played my IG but I am trying to put together a competative Imperial Guard list for an upcoming tournament at 1850 points, so do your worst. As a note the command squad and the veterans are the ones who will be utilizing the Drop Troops Doctrine.

One thing I would change is the HB/F in the second platoon. The F doesn't compliment the HB in any way. It's the only thing that I see screaming for change.

CHQ with F (from 2nd Plt)
Vet SQD with Meltas (from CHQ)
2nd Plt with Plasma/ HB combo (from the Vet SQD)

Anyway to find some more points and kit those PHQ with more plasma?

Well I could drop one heavy bolter squad and then give every squad a plasma gun. Think thats a good idea? Short of that It might be hard to find a way to cut any more fat.

You are absolutely correct. This list is in great shape. No fat a'tall. It's just a matter of finding 20 pts to make those other 5 sqds good. As it stands, they are only ok. Adding Plasma would help them exponentially. Granted, some will succumb to over heats and what not, but I think it's worth the risk.

Since it is only 20 points, you could drop a RR, change the CHQ to flamers and then plasma out your sqds. This will make thos 5 sqds more effective, your CHQ still a decent counter assault to your lines, and the RR's don't lose much themselves. Iknow, I know 6, not 5. As it stands, you lose 1 RR as opposed to 10 troopers, and a HB. On the + side, you get 5 plasma guns to go with those HB's at 1847 ish.

All in all, a good list with a lil something for you to think about.

Alright heres the new variation although it's not much diffrent. Dropped a RR switched the meltas in the CHQ to 3 Flamers and upgraded the second platoon to plasma wielders. I think your advice is solid and the list looks slightly sturdier. I am considering going back to the meltas in the CHQ though and dropping them but I am worried that with just 2 meltas instead of 3 their effectivness will take a significant drop, as before it was all but a certainty they would hit but now the chances of them landing even 1 shot is considerably reduced (although still fairly high), but being able to target basalisks and defilers, or any standoff armor, is pretty valuable IMHO. I don't know though, any other comments would be appreciated.

If it's Melta you need, you could replace the Vet plasmas with Meltas for free. This would make your Meltas even more effective then you originally had them. Ofcourse, If you liked them so much, you could replace more of your Vets with them.

I think you have a pretty good list here. At this point, besides the Melta/Plasma Vets, there's not a thing I would change.

Be prepared though, there are many IG generals out there with radical ideas like the use of Ogryns and other junk. Be wary.

I am not an IG player, but isn't this rather extremely heavy on the anti-marine and anti-armored company?
I do play marines and know them intimately, (no jokes Flagg), so I know the horror that this list could cause, but I think you might have issues with a large horde type list in assault like Orcs or dark eldar. . .

Hm. I was almost thinking the opposite - what with heavy bolters on half his infantry and all. I'm guessing the command HQ is dropping. What Flagg07 said about the meltas, if your lascannon need some help. Level, traditional IG - this list is close to optimal for what it tries to do.

When soldiers think, it's called routing.

No such thing, as flashlights actually are not that bad against orks and eldar.  There are plenty of thoes in this list to fight horde.

See? I told you to be wary of the radicals...

5 HB/ 5 LC....seems pretty even to me.

@Citadel you might have issues with a large horde type list in assault like Orcs or dark eldar. . .

It's IG, ofcourse they'll have trouble in assault. The only thing in his list that he wants to assault with is the RR's and they're a 1 hit wonder, but an effective 1HW.

The only change I offered was to make the 2nd platoon that more effective. Ok, the PG is an effective MEQ hunter. That being said, it is also effective at non-MEQ hunting. You're not implying grenade launchers are you?
