Well, he isnt a GW release of Mortie. He is my own custom sculpted take on him.

I tried to blend the CCG artwork with the Epic miniature of Mortarion. This is the result.

Any comments are welcome here. There is a little mor einfo on the Coolmini listing. Thanks for any constructive input.

Very nice work, good take on a demon prince. Are you selling the original or did you case up some copies (obivously you can't cast the GW wings but the rest looks original).

stunning...

Wow, I love it. You managed to steer clear from the typical 'grim reaper' look this guy usually have. The mask is unique and reflects well the neutrality of Death and Decay, which are not *evil* forces but only an unavoidable state of existence (or lack thereof).

Although my green stuff skills are leagues below this standard, I steel feel there might be a few things which could be improved. First, some areas could have deeper recesses: on both sides of the mask, beneath the hood, around the knee plates, etc. Second is the cape's end on Mortie's left side - it's seems to be sort of flowing in the wind but it doesn't look quite right for some reasons (the ends probably shouldn't be pointing upwards that way).

I gotta admit that if GW was to release this model this summer, instead of Seb Perbet's cartoony Nurgle Lord (to each his own, I guess), that'd be an instant buy even though I don't collect Death Guard anymore.

Some truly excellent work and I hope we'll see this guy painted to a very high standard by whoever wins it.

Kudos,
JF

Absolutely incredible, yo are to be commended

How the hell have you not cast a few spares?! How can you be selling this on ebay?! How is this not being offered for sale?

It looks rather like a "generic grim reaper of pestilence" figure to me...

Holy crap! That is just damn cool. One of the things I love about this miniature is its emaciated rather than bloated stomach. It goes against the cliche Nurgle visuals, but totally fits the idea (maybe even better). Plus all of the decaying details in the armor and the cool helmet. I hope you get a lot for him because it's well worth it.

No sir, I don't like it. Excellent sculpt and all, it's just not what I imagined Mortarion to look like at all. I guess you can't please everyone, but after playing Death Guard for a few years that just doesn't look right to me for some reason. Sorry.

To each its own. I personally can't stand Seb Perbet's upcoming Nurgle Lord. But still, I'm curious, what does your vision of the Primarch looks like?

Well, I haven't really played my DG in a while, and the model would probably look a lot better painted. I remember after reading the DG article in White Dwarf I had a really clear image of the Primarch in my head, and I don't remember it as well now. I think the torso area looks a bit off, and I don't remember anything about wings, but I guess it works. Also, the helmet looks a bit wonky. See, I can't really explain what I think is wrong, so I probably shouldn't criticize. Also, I just saw a Nurgle Lord by Perbet, and it looks pretty gross (not in a good way). Then again, the Lord I used for my DG army since the beginning is the old stock Chaos Lord model with old gargoyle wings and a bare eldar head, so he looks more Slaaneshi than anything.

There are indeed quite a few visions of the Primarch so far. Most of the ones I've seen were too 'grimrepearish' in my opinion (like the Epic model which came out a few years ago or all those conversions based on the Necron's Nightbringer model). Adrian Smith's painting is interesting and even though it features the Primarch before its ascension to Daemonhood, the armour is quite different.

Its a great model!
Although to me its not, i dont know, deep enough?
the lines and depressions are a bit shallow in my opinion. In terms of a model that would be on sale it would rely too much on the skill of the painter to get a good finish where as a model with deeper shadows in the sculpt is more forgiving to the average painter. The artistry is excellent and overall i like it.

I like it. It's a nice departure from the standard "bloat" style.

I think I would have preferred a plume of septic effluence instead of the cape for his flying support, but it is very nice as is.

Hum, the Ebay auction for this item has just been cancelled because, as the email I got said, it was 'violating one or more of [Ebay's] policies'.

It's a shame...

You have incredible skill in sculpting. The head isn't doing it for me though; to plain, not enough depth or 3-dimensionality. Perhaps it's the angle? Also, I'm suprised you didn't add on your own flavor to the wings; they seem out of place not being as 'battle-hardened' as the rest of the model.

Overall, great pose and very imposing on the table top :-P

Although I didn't get any details from Sophia herself, this is probably due to Games Workhsop pulling the plug on the auction due to copyright infringements.

That's a load of horse crap. GW showing off what a slimeball company they are again. Copyright infringement my arse, if they're going to pull that, they need to pull every other conversion/scratch built offered on eBay. It's this crap that pisses me off the most about GW, screwing the customer over, bullying the weak, and generally being a pack of spineless greed worshiping corporate poo-throwing monkeys.

After what happened with the figure that looked kind of like a Nurgle Daemon Prince I can't really see Sofia wanting to attract GW's attention again. Especially when you consider a fairly distinctive kind of armour being involved..

Oooh, that sucks big time.

Was the auction item listed with any GW names in it, like "Mortation". One way to avoid their attention might be to simply leave out the direct references to GW.

You might lose some traffic, but the auciton might not get pulled then either.

Call it a Flying Golgothan or something instead.

Not sure why everyone's so shocked about the auction ending. It was a pretty clear infringement... all you need to do is change the name and make sure that there are no GW references in it, otherwise you're directly profiting from someone else's imagery. Doesn't matter if it's GW or Lucasarts doing the suing, it's still the law.

Anyhow - nice sculpt. Hope you're able to relist and sell it.

What are you talking about? It was a one-off item, something that is sold all over the place on ebay using GW's names. From scratch built defilers, daemon princes, primarchs, you name it characters, and all sorts of vehicles, these have all been acceptable things to sell so long as it isn't some mass-produced kit, which Sophia indicated it wasn't (she was selling her original sculpt, not resin cast copies). And this is just the scratch built stuff, all of the awesme conversions that are for sale, like the stuff Insaniak builds to sell, these are all in the same boat yet you don't see GW shutting down those auctions.
