Hello,

Does anyone have any experience of shipping US to UK?

I am trying to work out a way to get some products that i would like, but the cheapest the supplier can seem to do it for is $100, which would make it unviable compared to the value of the actual products.

The products themselves are fairly sizable (the packaging will be 2ft x 2ft x 1ft) but are light (weighing about 3kg)

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks

Karl

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

1. Always get tracking or ther post will go missing. Parcelforce is full of thieves.

2. If the goods are new depackage them to make them second hand if you don't want the orginal packaging yourself. This is legal so long as the goods originate from a third party, i.e. a mate in the US, not a company in the US.
Companies wont depackage, its illegal. A friend however can legeally receive goods in the US from a US company, remove the packaging, thus making them second hand. Then the goods can be given an arbitrary value for customs purposes. So long as the goods are depackaged this is legal.

3. Shipment is paid at source if the US doesnt charge by volume Parcelforce will accept a large cheap parcel. The Uk charges by volume and mass so it pays to compact parcels.

4. If its over $35 expect customs to sting you, this is a flat rate handling charge plus a %. It will be steep, unless you really want your goods in 100% condition, that includes extrnal packaging then see point 3.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

US to UK postage is very expensive for some reason.

That's just what it is and we have to accept it.

I would try to get a friend to bring them over in his suitcase if they might fit. They sound a bit too large, though.

I would suggest you look around for budget flights and go get it.

You can also go and visit people in the states whilst you're about it.

Ok, might just have to give up.

Was a set of terrain and hobbying materials for my gaming club, but the end intention was to also sell some, so needed a wya to be able to get them here fairly regularly, without the costs being extraordinary, and without the need for me to keep going to the US for them.

Back to the drawing board i guess......

US to UK package sending as not this expensive. I do it for business all the time.

$100 for that size box sounds like they want to send it FedEx or maybe USPS.

Regular USPS/Parcel Post should be around $20-$30 with insurance and delivery confirmation.

The only issue is the size of box, it is bumping you up to the next shipping bracket. If you could get the stuff you need in a smaller dimension box, then you would be set.

If you shop smart with your shipping you will do ok.

Perjhaps those who paid over the odds for shipping were paying a markup for delivery? or were using the wrong carrier service? Both would account for rip off shipping quotes.

Don't think you can get DC with Airmail, could be wrong though.
