Hey all,

I'm looking to revamp my radicals for the next tournament season here in the UK and I want them to be as competitive as possible. I'm working under the assumption that no allies will be allowed (no Marines or Guard) so all I have to work with are the codex choices :S

This army has to be capable of competing for the five basic rulebook missions at gamma and omega (that means escalation).

Within those constraints  what do you think of this list:

HQ
Inquisitor Lord, Incinerator, Emperor's Tarot, Psychic Hood.
Retinue - 3 Veterans with melta guns, 2 Mystics.
Land Raider - Extra Armour, Smoke.

Elites
Callidus assassin
Daemonhost

Troops
8 Stormtroopers, 2 Flamers, Vet with Thunderhammer and Bolt pistol and auspex, Rhino with Extra Armour, Smoke, Searchlight
8 Stormtroopers, 2 Meltaguns, Vet with Thunderhammer and Bolt pistol, Rhino with Extra Armour, Smoke
6 Stormtroopers, 2 Plasma guns, Rhino with Extra Armour, Smoke
6 Stormtroopers, 2 Plasma guns, Chimera with Extra Armour, Smoke, Multi laser, Heavy Bolter
6 Stormtroopers, 2 Plasma guns, Chimera with Extra Armour, Smoke, Multi laser, Heavy Bolter

Thanks for reading.

I'm a big fan of the minimus Inq Lord...Psychic hood, tarot, bp/ccw, 2 mystics, familiar/other dude.

You have no counter-assault in the list also. I'd invest in a couple death cultists.

Extra armor/smoke won't be all that useful on the Chimeras. You shouldn't be using them as transports, but rather as firebases.

The Thunderhammers on the ST Vet also not that useful. I'd spend the point elsewhere.

And note, in the US GT's, you can take inducted troops. I'm assuming the UK ones will be the same way.

I think it's odd that you can't use any allies, never been to a tourney where that was the case especially considering that is one of the main tenets of the Daemonhunters list. Anyway your list is sort of so-so, I don't know how well a single daemonhost will preform, with just one it will be fairly unreliable. The list does have excellent mobility which is always a plus for grabbing objectives but like the above states thunderhammers are not very useful IMHO on your sarges.

I'm sure you can use allies in Demonhunters - check the rules pack.

9 Deathcult Assassins might be fun. Infiltrate all of them, and your opponent will have to shoot a 40 point model with all his guns...

From what I've heard, DH get an exception for "by the command of the...emperor..." as the units are technically listed in their book. But no Sisters showing up.

togoch's idea is so ridiculous I think I will be forced to try it as soon as my painting desk is cleared.

When soldiers think, it's called routing.

Yeah...I've always wanted to do the 9 DCA thing. Operate them in tandem, and your opponent is forced to shoot 9 units at them to take them out. Highly amusing.

Thanks for the tip Torgoch - I re-checked the rules pack and it does seem that Marine and Guard allies are allowed. Since they will cover a lot of weaknesses, I will need to redesign my list.

On DCA - I have three of these guys and usually use them as counter-charge, hanging ariound behind the Stormtrooper squads. I would love to try 9, though, only 360 points. Having said that they die to a lite sneeze...

They die to a light sneeze, true...but if you have nine of them, it takes nine sneezes to do so. And very few units won't be wasting shots when they pick off the assassins.

Since people seem to be pretty convinced you can take Marines or Guard, I'd suggest picking one. Depending on what you have painted, Relictors would look pretty fluffy as Radical allies. Daemonhosts are very fun, but not so competitive I'm told. Decide if you want to go mostly infantry or mostly vehicles, then just follow it up with appropriate choices - so IST in Rhinos, 96'ers in Razorbacks/Armoured Fists, Russ/Pred,Dred,LR and elite/HQ Land Raiders for vehicle heavy; or larger foot-slogging tactical squads/platoons, Assault Marines/Rough Riders, Assasins, etc. for infantry heavy. Another unit I have seen in some lists is a lone elite Inquisitor with Terminator Armour and a Psycannon, playing either a similar role to an IG drop-sentinel, or alternatively advancing behind infantry while still firing at 36". For a vehicle heavy choice I think Allied Space Marine are slightly better as they offer more options for Heavy support, and can also take (my personal favourite) a small squad of Devastators as push-back, whereas Inducted Guard may be stuck placing their Russ in the center then reversing 12" first turn - though the option of taking said tank does double the potential ordnance of a Radical force. (lance strike + battle cannon > lance strike) As to which offers stronger infantry, it's a matter of personal preference and style. ISTs are decent enough as troops, I suppose, but DH, and especially Radicals, forfeit a lot of options choosing not to use "By the Authority..."
Good luck at the tournament.
