Hello everyone! My brother recently bought a battleforce of Tyranids and some other units, and showed me the game. I got a couple hands on play of his friend's armies and found the game enjoyable.
One problem though, not sure which army to buy. I have looked at the choices and i have come to 5 that i would like to play.(which only eliminated 9 of the races.) The Races i am thinking of playing are:

Tau Empire
Necron
Chaos Space Marine
Eldar
Dark Eldar

I mainly like each army for the look of them.(even though Chaos space marines look nothing like Eldar) So to help me choose, i would like to ask the community a couple of questions.
Which army/armies do you prefer? And are battleforces worth the buy? or would it be better to buy different squads separately?
Anything will be appreciated!

Btw, it's so very difficult for anyone to tell you which army to pick.
You should take the one that looks more appealing to you. Imo that is most important, what you could do as well is sit down and think about what kind of play you would like.

Do you want to swoop down on your enemy with devastating firepower? Then perhaps Dark Eldar is your choice.
Do you like those crazy armor saves then perhaps it's power armor CSM that would best suit you.
You don't like the assault phase very much? Then I would venture that Tau would suit you quite well.

If you pick up your calculator and thump it a couple of times you will realize that a battleforce is a great buy, saving you allot of money. But perhaps start of with a troop choice box and figure out your color-scheme and find out if you would be willing to paint more units of that faction.

Good luck!

Welcome to Dakka.

I would like to second what Reality-Torrent has said, as it is sage advice.

Then, I would say,CHAOS!

Welcome..
Whats this, *looks to the side...* No ORKS?

Bahhh.. tis ok, we have enough Orks in the System...

As Reality-Torrent says, Its up to you. Eldar/Dark are frail, but fast, same as Tau. Necs,... Well they are expensive, but not as much as Chaos, so you might be out Numberd. you might want to see a few games and see whats a good army for you mate.

Rock oN!

Hey! Welcome to Dakka!

Btw maybe you should just pick the army you think is the coolest. Thats what I did with the Blood Angels. I hadn't even seen a single Blood Angel model and I decided to play them.

I haven't regretted my choice.

Dark Eldar are pretty hard for a beginning army. I would suggest Chaos Marines, Khorne. Oh, and BTW, welcome to Dakka!

Welcome to Dakka!

Most important thing is to look at the fluff, playstyle, and look of the armies and decide which fits you best.

Try not to get caught in the "This army is stronger" or "This army is weaker" that you will see on forums. The game is ever evolving and everyone gets their 15 minutes of fame as codexes are updated and rules change.

The most important thing is to pick an army that will let you enjoy the game!

Good luck and have fun!

I am glad to see another wargamer joining the ranks. It depends on what type of play style you like. The necrons and tau are very shooty while the dark eldar are more of a hit and run sort of army that still is fun to play.
Regardless of the army It is great to have you on board with dakka dakka.

TOO MUCH CHAOS!!!
