Basic idea is a firebase around the tanks with the vendettas either staying in reserve to scoop objectives/outflank or deploy for an alpha strike.
The infantry squads all have heavy weapons to deal with the loads of mech out there, however I'm interested to hear what dakka thinks about throwing flamers on some squads for only 5 points to help deal with hordes. turns 1-2 sit back and pop the autocannon, 3-4 move into position to use the flamer. Thoughts?

Whats keeping those squads from running? Thats a lot of points to have run off the board. Id get some commissars in there to make sure they dont run.

The Heavy flamer is not really worth its points. With the difference of the 15 points you can do a lot.

Sponsons encourage russes to stay still. A non moving russ is a dead russ. Id drop them.

I would also try tog et some pwoer weapons in there somewhere. Guard have a chance at CC, you just have to make it a fair-er fight.

The list is alright, I dont like the chimera for the CCS, they have a lascannon, so they cannot move and shoot it, so you might as well put them on foot and find some other use for it.

The autocannon/flamer is not too bad. The idea is not that you have them shoot then flame, is that you deploy them where necessary. If they need to be shooting, they shoot, if you need them rushing for a weak enemy position they do.

You probably want the CCS to be giving orders to the infantry squads, so the chimera is not necessary. I normally don't bother with a standard, its a lot of points for what it does. But it's so fluffy, and ymmv. If you think you might outflank you might consider the astropath, one of the best ways to spend 30 points as guard. You want those vendettas in asap. I also like the Officer of the Fleet, any deepstriking army will just hate you for him.

THe problem with the Melta PCS in the Vendetta is that it can't fire from the vehicle, and once it's on the ground it's dead. I would use the chimera from the CCS. Same with the SWS, just not enough survivability. Also, the best thing to do with those vendettas is keep them right at 48" from the enemy as long as possible. I put troops inside, but only with flamers or GL, something cheap that if I don't get to fire it won't bother me much.

You've invested a lot of points in heavy and special weapons for troops that only have BS3. Also, you have a lot of range mixing in your squads, since you are trying to have your squads fill two roles. For Guard, that is usually the kiss of death. You troops can do one thing very well, give them two tasks and their little unaugmented human minds begin to fail. I would rearrange your platoons so all the squads are the same, and pull the lascannons and plasma completely. The AC/GL combination is tried and true. Cheap, gives the squad something to do at all ranges, and isn't too badly damaged by bs3. Flamers are OK, but odds are a guardsmen in template range of an enemy is about to be dead, so you don't get to fire them very much.

SWS I just don't use. With some of the points saved from above make them vets, put them in chimeras, give them melta and plasma, and go to town.

Manticore rules the world. Your Russ Battle Tanks should not have any upgrades. That BS3 lascannon is rarely useful, and is an anti-tank weapon on an infantry killing platform. As the man said, you rare will get to fire those sponsons, I only run them in very specific circumstances, if I know my opponent and know the scenario in advance. Otherwise they are a waste of points most of the time.

Love the vendetta, of course. Three is just mean. That demo SWS is ok for passengers, albiet expensive. Otherwise go cheap, PCS with flamers, etc.

Hope this helps,

BB
