I'm having a game on friday with my first time trying out Vulkan.

Let me know what you think, please!

Vulkan

5x TH/SS termies, land raider (yes, vanilla, hang me), multimelta

Ironclad, hvy flamer, meltagun, pod

10x tac, meltagun, missile, fist, rhino

10x tac, meltagun, missile, fist, rhino

MM attack bike

MM attack bike

Typhoon speeder or MM/HF speeder, not sure which to take

I have an ironclad instead of a MM dread, because it won't (hopefully) die the turn it deepstrikes.
I'm thinking of switching tac meltas to flamers but not sure on that.
Any suggestions?

Go with flamer/mm in the tac squads. Dump the pf's. Go with a plain old dread. I would go with mm/hf speeders.

Ok, I can use multimeltas and dump the fists, but I can't use a normal multimelta dread, because I don't have the model (I prefer the ironclad anyway), also I have only one MM/HF speeder, and prefer the (far from traditional) MM attack bikes.

So that would make it like:

Vulkan

5x TH/SS termies, land raider (yes, vanilla, hang me), multimelta

Ironclad, hvy flamer, meltagun, pod

10x tac, flamer, multimelta, rhino

10x tac, flamer, multimelta, rhino

MM attack bike

MM attack bike

MM/HF speeder

And that would leave 90pts for something.

EDIT: ACTUALLY! I can in fact make a MM dread out of an ironclad, that would give me 30pts, and give me the option of dropping the MM/HF speeder,
go really untraditional and get 2 typhoons. (that should work since I'm not fighting GKs)

Just remember, to make vulkan worth his price premium, you need to take as many models/units as you can to take advantage of his rules. If you dont, then there is no need to play him, especially at this point level...

This list looks mean. You may want to consider dropping down to three five-man tac squads plus a Sternguard squad, which can better take advantage of Vulkan's twin-linked melta ability.

I don't think he has any kind of a price premium, he's actually very undercosted since a captain with arti armor, storm shield, relic blade
and digital weapons is 170pts, you are actually only paying 20 points for the heavy flamer , bolt pistol and twin-linking weapons.
At 1500 and less, Vulkan is actually a great beatstick HQ as long as he doesnt run into instant deaths.

I'd prefer to keep my TL flamers, I want to have something in case I face a horde. I think 6 TL multimeltas is enough anyway.

I would try one tact squad with flamer/missile launcher and the other with meltagun/multimelta. I've had pretty good success with those configurations. The flamer/missile launcher squad can sit back on a home objective using the missile launcher out of the hatch or combat squad leaving the launcher on the objective and move up the flamer using it out of the hatch.

On some other army I'd probably do that, but this army is too aggressive in nature to use my troops camping, I need to get them to the fight , so they use their twin-linked shot-range weapons (I want the TL MMs over MLs)

Except anyone spending 170pts on a captain would also be spending to much. Try not to compare a unit that is way over costed to a unit that is over costed. It will always make the way over costed unit look good, but it's still bad.

At 1500pts or less, Cassius on a point cost basis would give Vulkan a run for his money.

I don't think you necessarily have to spam everything to make Vulkan's costs worth it, just make use of it a fair bit, i'd take Meltagun, Missile over Flamer/MM on your tacs as the multi melta is never going to fire and you'll need that melta to take out tanks, make sure you have a MM on the Land Raider, the Ironclad is fine but i'm not too sure about the lone suicide speeder.

I'm not having the suicide speeder

Here's the final version of the list I'm going to use (sry, I just have to try the MMs on tacs, just to see if they work )

Vulkan

5x TH/SS termies, land raider (yes, vanilla, hang me), multimelta

Dread, hvy flamer, MM, pod

10x tac, flamer, combimelta (just in case...), multimelta, rhino

10x tac, flamer, multimelta, rhino

MM attack bike

MM attack bike

2xTyphoon speeder

Later I can try a version with meltagun/ml tacs, but I'll try this now

Okay! I played the game, and won with a wipeout on turn 4!

The game was vs crimson fists, using death world rules with normal missions. The only thing death world really did was the death of the crimson fist's TFC on turn 1 before it got to shoot.

The stars of the game were Vulkan and his termies, who literally walked though the crimson fist army. The only thing in my list that didn't really do anything were the tacs, they just killed 2 termies and blew a razorback with the combi-melta, so I'm using the meltagun/ml next time to see if it's better. It also seems I really don't need to spam any more meltas, I was able to destroy most of the tanks in two turns.

So the list is good now, thanks to everyone for the advice!

Kudos for using a vanilla LR. Haven't seen anyone use those recently.
