Well, the local league is nearing its first points increase - week after next we go up to 1250, and I need to plan out what I need to paint.

So, here is what I was thinking for 1250:

HQ-
1x Broodlord= Toxin Sacs, Implant Attack, Extended Carapace, Flesh Hooks, Adrenal Glands +1 I (Just to piss off the local Wych Cult player, and take the Always Strike First drug on his HQ) - 109
6x Retinue= Extended Carapace, Flesh Hooks - 126

Troops-
7x Genestealers= Extended Carapace - 140
7x Genestealers= Extended Carapace - 140
7x Genestealers= Extended Carapace - 140
7x Genestealers= Extended Carapace - 140
7x Genestealers= Extended Carapace - 140
7x Genestealers= Extended Carapace - 140

Heavy Support-
1x Carnifex= Enhanced Senses, Reinforced Chitin, Venom Cannon, Barbed Strangler - 163

Models: 50
48 Genestealers, 1 Broodlord, 1 Carnifex.

So, from 1000 I'm adding a total of 11 genestealers (at 1000 I'm running 4 broods of 6, 1 brood of 7, and the lord's retinue of 6), putting an extra wound on the carni, and making the lord I8.

Instead, I could keep the carni at 4 wounds, and add another stealer to one of the broods, or to the lord's retinue, because the carni rarely dies...

Thoughts?

Definately keep the 5th wound, it is insurence against skimmer armies that you want to sacrifice a stealer for! definately.

You don't seem to mind having to roll that ld10 IB test at the start of each turn, sure it only fails 1/11 times but it happens occasionally.

Looks pretty decent, another option is to keep the BL cheap and use it to suck up wounds.
Keep it naked at 70pts, for this it gets 3 wounds, you can save 2 stealers from dying by taking a wound on the BL instead (more accuratly a save if one is allowed) each time the unit is shot.

Say 2 tac squads shoot at the unit then each time you give the BL 1 wound, once the BL is on 1 wound you start distributing the wounds to the stealers, keep the BL alive on 1 wound.

Granted he is then easier to kill in CC having only 4+ save and 1 wound but it also means your in CC with 2 more stealers.
Unless attacking cover you should be fine with just 1 wound, attacking cover makes it more dangerous but it actually worked in my favour last tournament, I had BL on 1 wound and 2 stealers attacking marines in cover, they decided to risk it and attack the T5 BL instead of the stealers, rolling only 4s they failed to wound and I was able to rampage through.

Not only will you be getting into CC with 2 extra stealers the points saved on BL upgrades will buy you another 2 stealers.

IB on the carnifex isn't an issue. So far, of the 8 official league games I have played so far, he has failed twice, and I wasn't even planning to move him that turn (Just getting into the habit of rolling it anyways).

I'm not too wild about stripping the broodlord down.. it could get me an extra stealer or two, but for me, his retinue is just there to soak up wounds while HE gets into combat.. most games, he is my MVP... I can toss him into almost any combat and not worry about it. 5 S6 Rending power weapon attacks on the charge is pretty wicked, and implant attack makes him a real threat to enemy HQ's or multi wound models. And to be honest, he and his retinue don't get shot at too often. Assuming he gets to infiltrate (which is almost always), he is hidden behind terrain on turn 1... I will move up him, still out of LOS if possible, then on turn 2, move him out to assault when I can. if not, he just moves from cover to cover. Most opponents seem more concerned with the other 37 genestealers comiing their way

Regardless... thanks for the comments! I've just had really good luck with the tooled broodlord.. at the very least, S6 is probably the "must have", because people like to toss swarms at him to tarpit the unit... with S6, he instakills entire bases... quite fun
