The failsafe detonator may be triggered if the bearer is part of a team that must make a fallbak move. The team is moved but the character stay there.
Crisis and broadside are called team even it only 1 suit is chosen but the commander does not have this in the name of the unit.

If after removing casualties there is only the suit with the failsafe detonator remaining can it activate the failsafe detonator because he is now alone?

Can a lone suit may use this upgrade if it start the game alone?

I would say yes, they could. However, that's just based off of what you've told me as I do not have the codex.

New Mexico

may be triggered if the bearer is part of a team that is forced make a fall back move having lost an assault. The team is moved as normal, but the character stays where he is and the enemy may not make a sweeping advance. Once his team has moved and before pile in moves, the character activates the detonator - place the large blast marker contered on the character and roll for partial hits on other models as normal. Every model hit takes a single s8 ap- hit and the character is removed as a casualty. The enemy may not consolidate. Note that the enemy unit need not take a morale check should this attack inflict 25% casualties, as it occurs outside the normal sequence in which such checks are required.

I think I like it RAW.
