Minasan Ohayoogozaimasu!! Im considering starting a guard army. I've always wanted a guard army, but I just wasnt feeling the Cadians, and thowup a little when I see Catachans. Not to mension you could spend upwords of your first born for a metal guard army. A friend and I were thinking about making two of the traitor armies from the Sabbat Crusade, the sons of sek and the blood pact. When I was sculpting a little mask on a guard head to see how hard it would be I realized the potential of basic greenstuff conversions. I made three samples from my dream armies, it was a ton of fun and (this is where you come in) I want to show them to all of you! we have a (blurry) Tallarn Raider, the Blood Pact, and a Njordian Fighter their backs! Tell me what you think ok. -Captain Sean

They all look great concepts! I would have a hard time choosing between the three. I love the Blood Pact fig (I'm also doing Blood Pact army, so I naturally lean towards this one...) But the desert guy is great too. I have always liked the Tallarn style army. The snow-trooper looks great. It really shows a different way to do snow themed army. No great coats or white uniforms, but it still looks like it's equipped to handle the cold enviroment. Very original take on a winter uniformed guardsman. I really can't help you choose between them. Can't you do all three?

Go with Traitor Guard: They look to be the most fun to sculpt and you can adorn them with trophies (and bodies) from different varieties of Loyalist Guard. What do the Sons of Sek look like? I can't find any description on the Intarweb. Njordians would be a great replacement for Warmachine's justly-reviled Khador Winterguard sculpts. Cheaper too.

I like the snow trooper, I may borrow that idea when I do some winter-themed guardsmen. Much, much better than the Valhallans. I'm not keen on the mask though, maybe using the Forgeworld respirator heads would be a good idea?

Is the head on the Blood Pact guy sculpted or just a random bit? If it's sculpted (and even if it isn't), that's very cool.

Sean, could you imagine a whole army of those guys along side my sons of sek?! We would rule the city with a bloddy fist! Obviously you know which I want you to collect...blood pact all the way.
And I'll feild those questions if you don't mind. He sculpted the mask, and that is a beard.
Here are the starts of my sons of sek if you are interested...there is also a pic from the sabbat worlds book for you who want to know what the sons of sek look like. Ankwanar sek is in there too...

The snow guy has a beard. I should do more highlighting on it though. I wish I could take credit for the snow guy but I just copied the designe from this guy, http://s11.invisionfree.com/Work_In_Progress/index.php?showtopic=2335 The Blood Pact guy however is all me, I sculpted the mask and shaved off his sleaves. He's based an a drawing in a white dwarf. heres a picture of the head and one of him by himself. And here is a picture of my Tallarn raider, I really like the turbans! Heres a veteren sergeant, I painted the fatigues a little differently on this guy, tell me what you think looks better Well Thats all for now.

Blood Pact: Hey, you sculpt a mighty fine mempo! Most Blood Pact I see make me wish the converter had opted for a beast-head helmet instead:
The ragged sleeves aren't half-bad either. If you do plump for this army: To better define the different parts of the uniform use a matt varnish as the final coat on the cloth and a gloss varnish as the final coat on the (lacquered?) armour and mask. Green Stuff the Khornate icon. Apply blood sparingly and by running your finger along the bristles of an old toothbrush to get a more realistic splatter. Urgh...blood...*woozy*
Tallarn: Definately light brown. When I see dark brown I think 'mud'. And 'chocolate'. Mmmm...chocolate...*drool*

Light brown for the Tallarn. The Blood Pact guy is nice, but it's hard to really pic out the details on the mask with the blood on the face, or it could be the shine across the whole fig (as alluded to above). My pic though is the snow trooper. Ver nice.

mandragore, why do all of your minis have a smear of greenstuff over their mouths? As to the army, they are all awesome, but I would have to pick blood pact. By the way, what is the pallate on the snow guardsman?

I like Tallarns myself. Probably one of my favourite regiments. Blood Guard could get cliche - even though you've got an excellent take on them, they're a pretty popular army. Mechanized Tallarns would work out okay - sort of a "what if Rommel was from Yemen?" kind of theme, lots of chimmies and bassies with two hellhounds and a big squad of rough riders. Though if you're going heavy greenstuff on Cadian base regardless, your army composition would be moot anyways. Between your two colour schemes, I'd say go for a slightly darker/more heavily shaded take on the khaki. Alternatively, dark blue - at least for the turbans - might look okay, as that's the favoured colour of the Tuareg tribe of north-west Africa and would make them stand out from other Tallarns painted in the usual ragged brown. Tallarn Rough Riders also look darned cool, and there are probably lots of different alternative miniatures. From a fluff/gaming point of view, Tallarns have the best preffered special and heavy weapons.

That smear of GS is the begining of a sons of sek gasmask...I need to sculpt a hand over it and then a vent, and then i need to run guitar wire from it to the tanks on thier backs.
I think I am forcing sean to do blood pact, I brought him 2 boxes of cadians last night and we got to work. He has five troopers converted now, and I have 4 that are about 50-70% converted...I still need to figure out how to sculpt that hand, got any advice?

the tallarn guy is great. It looks like an update on an already cool set of figures. the front page of games workshop has a great pic. perhaps you could try something along those lines? what do the tallarns have in way of camoflauge? something to explore, perhaps. the srgt is more tallarn like. blood pact is bit a boring imho. the snow guys, not bad, defintely different. but so few people do tallarns and especially the grace and talent you've done these two with. I'd love to see what you do with a russ or chimera.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.
