Thanks. I wasn't sure that I could pull it off, but it worked pretty well. The other should probably have some sort of decoration as well, but I don't really like the model enough to pull her back out of storage.

They didn't. The face is the canopy from a harlequin jetbike, combined with a lot of sculpy.

I hope the Dread turns out well. I had a heck of a time getting it right when I first built it, which is why it's still in pieces now.

I vote for the dread. Always loved the harlequin conversion of it.

Cool updates, the kimono on the geisha looks amazing. The valkyrie also catches my eye.

That's a nice bit of freehand work on the Geishas kimono.

iirc the harlequin dreadnought idea was first mooted in a citadel journal, think it even had unofficial rules. Can't wait to see what you do with it!
The samuria marines are all kinds of awesome.

The Japanese models continue to look great, and that Harlequin dready should be cool once it's painted too.

I have, at this point, kind of a vague idea of how to approach the model. It might not get done this month, though...

Thanks! I enjoyed painting such colorful models, especially given that they aren't fighty, like pretty much everything else I do.

Thanks! It breaks down if you really zoom in, but at normal viewing distances, it works.

Were there rules for the harlie dread? We didn't have ready access to Citadel Journal back in the day. It just seemed like an obvious conversion. I'm glad you like the Samurines, as well.

Thanks! The maiko was fun to paint (the geisha not so much), so it's nice to hear that other people like them. The Harlie Dread is proving difficult to get started on, sadly...

Continuing my theme of getting stuff done, here are a couple of Dreadball captains:


The guy on the left is the captain of the Wu-Ling Wanders, who create portals on the pitch. The restic casting was pretty rough on this guy, which on top of all the fiddly detail made him not a lot of fun to paint. In the end, I went the expressionist route, with patches of color to sort of define what everything is and let the viewer fill in the details.

The guy on the right is the captain of the Glambek Ghosts, immaterial energy beings who can phase through enemy players. The rest of the team is cast in translucent blue plastic. I just gave them a coat of Tamiya Clear Blue. This guy is regular grey restic. I think the effect worked pretty well.

I also finished off my old metal Fellowship:






I tried to paint them all in movie-accurate colors. It was pretty easy to do, as there is a boatload of photo reference online, mostly by/for cosplayers.

Here are the rest of the Fellowship, painted years ago, and showing wear from their frequent participation in games of Frostgrave:




As you can see, my painting style has changed significantly over the last five? ten? years since I painted these first three. They work pretty well in group, though, so I don't think I'll be going back and touching up anything:


The harlequin dreadnought is proving quite the challenge. I'm making a fancy base for it, and have been playing around with poses, but the inherent stiffness of the base model is slowing me down. Also, while drilling out the shoulder mount, I managed to break off the tip of my drill bit, and have to rethink my strategy for mounting the limbs. I'll try to share some WIP photos this weekend.

Lovely to see some dreadball! Koris captain is a great job and nice work on the ghosting too.
Fellowship look grand and still very excited for harlequin!

Dread will come good. Metal was always a pain for pinning. Always ate drill bits. Dremel the broken out and fill the hole with milliput. Then Redhill the hole.

My son is getting too old to play games with his old man, so I'm not getting any Dreadball games in. I do still love the models, restic notwithstanding. I have the Kalyishi team from DBX in the painting queue right now.

Me, too. Part of me wonders why I waited so long to paint them, but another part of me is glad that I did-- I'm a better painter now, and am glad that I could do some sort of justice to the models.

Milliput. I hadn't considered that. My Tamiya putty is too soft to hold the arm in place. I'll have to swing by the hobby shop today. Thanks for the advice!

I went to the local hobby shop, but they must be having trouble staying afloat in the post-Amazon age, as they seem to be focusing on stuff that sells-- no Milliput for me! I dug back into the Box of Eldar and found another left arm, this one with the peg intact. That one is staying in place. I played around with painting a diamond pattern, but wasn't satisfied with the results. Instead, I opted to go for a monochrome look:



Lots of work still left to do. It's a good thing I finished off the Fellowship so I have something to enter in this month's challenge.

Harlequin dread is looking funky. That's a cracking Reb there, I always liked them as a faction. I keep looking at the Halo reskin and thinking maybe ... but I'd rather just play Dz. You?

Funky, indeed. It's proving remarkably difficult to paint.

Is Halo a DZ reskin? I'm not a computer gamer, so I'm not familiar with the franchise, and thus haven't been following its development. That said, I went all the way in (potentially marriage-threateningly) on the first DZ kickstarter, and significantly on the second, so I have so much DZ stuff that I can't really see myself getting into another version of the same game. I do like the lore and models, even the funky old restics, so there's no harm to me there. The 3rd edition rules are pretty great, too.

Yeah, reskin with some mission elements that are more computer gamey. I mean it makes sense - DZ's cube measurement makes it much more accessible to non tabletop gamers. And the fact that you respawn is interesting. But GCPS are already Master chiefs so... meh.

Not terribly familiar with Deadzone, but that's a cool model. Harlidread is looking pretty sweet. Cool pose, and the monochrome scheme is good. Mime vibes.

Say what you like about Mantic but at least they make properly alien aliens.

Your work leaves me speechless lately. Magnificent.
