Agreed, this puts the power selections and options into perspective, and gives me great ideas for possible builds.

I may like Nurgle but the thousand sons are my homeboys.
He costs a lot but its funny to watch him demolish a Draigowing list in two turns. He costs as much as a land raider though so have fun with that.

Master of Deception

If Ahriman is your Warlord, he can choose to automatically have the Master of Deception Warlord Trait instead of rolling for a trait from the main rulebook. He let's d3 Infantry units Infiltrate before deployment.

Don't you HAVE to take that Warlord trait if it's already in his profile?

Pg. 110 of the BRB states:

"Warlord Traits
Special characters roll for Warlord traits as normal, unless their
profile specifically notes that they have a fixed Warlord trait."

Not that this is bad, but I believe that's what you have to take, and can't choose to roll on the table.

Nice tactica though

You're right, man... but somewhere in that Codex it says that they may always choose to roll on one of the charts from the big rule book.

I'll double check when the book is in front of me.. and thanks!

Might have to edit my wording in the Tactica.. basically it's either Master of Deception or a BRB roll.

If you find that you should PM me and let me know or respond on here. I have a friend who just started playing CSM (with Ahriman) and we've been trying to figure this out

On pg 28 of the codex it says: "When generating his warlord traits, a chaos warlord may either roll on one of the warlord traits tables in the warhammer 40,000 rulebook, or roll on the table below (chaos warlord traits)"

It doesn't really specify anything for the special characters who all have a 'default' warlord trait.
So from this, I'm guessing Ahriman could roll in the big rulebook, roll on the chaos table, or just take his default.

His default is awesome though! So why would you want a random trait?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Nope, I just opened the main rulebook. I was wrong.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
If your chaos warlord is just a random hq guy with no default trait, then yes you can choose which table to roll on. main rulebook, or codex. [pg 28 chaos codex]

But in the main rulebook on pg 110 it says: "special characters roll for Warlord traits as normal, unless their profile specifically notes that they have a fixed Warlord trait."

So no, Ahriman can't take a different warlord trait.

Fair enough! Anyone who would want to change it out is silly...

Master of Deception is the next best thing to an auto-cast deep-striking power like the old Chosen of Ahriman had! ; )

No, he does not. The FAQ is what makes the Psychic Card reference sheet useless, because it says something similar to 'psykers generate powers from Demonology, in addition to what their entry says'.

To be honest, I'll take triple of the same Witchfire over access to Divination with just a basic Force Staff that has no other benefits in 7th ed.

Hi all

On reading the rule book about infiltration my take was that if a character wants to join a unit and then infiltrate that would still count as two separate uses of infiltration.

The other thing that cought my eye was that dedicated transports can infiltrate for free if the unit already has infiltrate. This means Terminators in Landraiders.

spaceman1,

Hey man

I understand that concern with the rules but when I use that at my store we all have agreed that since the BAO faq allowed a character to confer Infiltrate onto a unit during deployment (and the BAO faq was used in our big local tournament), that's the way we're playing it.

Your mileage will vary, of course- I'm sure the way you describe is the way most people play it but I doubt it's the intention, so my tactica is based upon that.

Yes, I love how Land Raiders could infiltrate. Would be a nice way to get plasma terminators where you want them against Riptides and Wraithknights. If I had the model for a Land Raider, I'd use one.

Nice article. I'm just want to ask you what do you mean by 'Fateweaver'?

I think Ahriman is a very powerful character. First of all, due to his warlord trait and ML4. Infiltration lists with Cypher and a 20 marine blob are quite potent - actually one of the best lists csm can provide. And only 2 characters give you this guaranteed infiltrate - Ahriman and Huron. Yes, Huron is cheaper but he's 3 ml lower than Ahriman and can't get invis. However, he can join whatever squad you want. Anywayz, i prefer Ahriman for this role.

Also, GET this s8 ap1 beam. It's deadly. Ahriman has 2/3 chance of getting it and with his multiple witchfires he can shoot 3 of those beams per turn. Need to thin down an opponent's invisible deathstar? Here you go, beams ignore invis as they don't target specific units. Need to get rid of those annoying ever-jinking skimmers and jetbikes? Beams don't target specific units, so they can't jink.

Yes building a battle-forged list around a basic Tzeentch sorcerer or whatever still gives a 1/3 chance to get Master of Deception but if you aren't using Ahriman or Huron you should be rolling on Strategic Warlort chart in the main book.. Same 1/3 chance for a BETTER infiltrate (Warlord + 3 non vehicles vs. d3 infantry of MoD)

The only reason I haven't updated this is because I am waiting to see if June brings a Tzeentch book.

One good thing I'd like to add if anyone is interested is that Ahriman is quite fun in Unbound lists. Take this 1850pt list:

Ahriman (Warlord)
8 Sorcerers- Level 1
Dreadclaw Drop Pod (Ahriman + Sorcerers go here)
9 Thousand Sons- Icon of Flame, Rhino
Relic Sicaran- Lascannons
Relic Sicaran- Lascannons
Herald of Tzeentch- Grimoire, Level 3, Disc
Herald of Tzeentch- Level 3, Disc
5 Screamers

Incredibly fun. One of those sorcerers is gonna have Invisibility.. The mini star is a good distraction considering the low model count.

I love Ahriman myself. My favorite 40k character. I'm going to start playing a list with Ahriman + 2 squads of Term Sorc/3 Oblits.

I'm really looking forward to the Tzeenchkin book but I'm almost certain it won't include Ahriman. The Khornekin book didnt have kharn. It probably wont have Fateweaver either.

I mentioned this on the Tzeentch Daemonkin post today on natfka.blogspot.com:

"Definitely don't see Ahriman being in this.. but I feel like Kharn wasn't in KDK because he already had a slate and they want you to buy that.. fingers crossed for a list with FW and Ahriman because he has no formation that you can purchase

But of course you can still purchase Codex: CSM to use Ahriman.. and they might cling to that. I hope not."

He'll either be there or he won't. : (

I just hope he gets better rather than worse if they do include him. Like harnessing powers on 3+ and getting a spell familiar. He should be at least equal to eldar psykers

I agree with you.

Slightly off-topic but not really?.... I have a custom ruleset for games here at the house:

1.) Divination (duh)
2.) Removed Black Staff rule.. Knows ALL Primaris powers from the main book instead.
3.) Spell Familiar.
4.) Generates an additional Warp Charge for each wound he has remaining.

It's quite fun.. and it enables him to function well when you start to lose Warp Charge mid game, so long as he has enough wounds to make a difference..
