I was going to wait till Monday .. but I'm inspired....

Last year roughly a week before Adepticon 2005 I posted for the world to see my proposed Gladiator 2K list..

Here is a link to the Gladiator rules: http://www.adepticon.org/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=13

<?

A Gladiator tournament is a no-holds-barred tournament where the only positive points are battle points earned on the tabletop. No one will score your painting, no one will care what you field and the numbers you do. The objective is to win the game and complete as many objectives as you can. That being said, you must have a painted army or you will lose points. You must use the same models that you would normally be allowed to use in Grand Tournaments. You also must conduct yourself in an appropriate manner or you will also lose points. Most Gladiators are won with undefeated scores or if not, then with only 1 point missing. In this sense, you cannot afford to lose any points.

This is your opportunity to make the biggest and baddest beatstick army you have ever dreamed of and play it in a tournament. A word of warning: Gladiator scenarios are among the most complicated scenarios in the tournament scene. Only a skilled General using a well balanced force will have the resources available to accomplish all of their objectives and claim the title of Gladiator Champion.

Only rule of the Gladiator is no ?Whining?.

People have different takes on a Gladiator Army.  Some folks bring very balanced, fine tuned, lean and mean RTT/GT Caliber list. . They worry about balance, being able to take all comers, having an answer for all possible scenarios. Those lists have proved fairly effective?even under the extreme Gladiator format.

However? My take on the Gladiator army is that it must meet one and only one criteria. Is it RUDE?  Not can it win? Is it fair and balanced?  But does it make your opponent pucker up!   Does it say .. I?m over compensating.  Does it bring out comments like ?It does what? ?, ?Oh crap?, ?That?s just wrong?,  ?This is going to hurt? , ? Mommy!? etc  ? I want to see the sweat start pooling on the brow of my opponent, the fidgeting, and the blood start flowing to the cheeks.  It?s about fielding something that you would not normally even dream of fielding with in the context of a  standard GT/RTT.  The Gladiator allows you to take extreme Forgeworld models?. so you best be packing one ..

Now why post my list in advance?? Have I gone insane? I have got to be crazy right .. A huge prize is on the line for crying out loud!! Certainly posting your list to an internet forum that all the big hitters frequent ?. seems well a bit extremely foolish.

But it?s the Gladiator?

It?s not about the prizes

It?s all about Ego, and whose got the biggest pair.

I don?t care if you know what I?m bringing because the end result will be the same?

When the smoke clears I?ll be defending my title as Adepticon Gladiator Champion.

So I?m calling all you wannabe Adepticon 2006 Gladiator Champions .. Post your lists if you got a pair!

So without further chest thumping .....Here is the list :  I?m still struggling with the composition of the HQ IQ and the EL Techpriests elements and as it stands I got a few points to play with..

Nice. "That's all you're fielding?" hehe. Do I get props for posting my Gladiator list first? hehe. All in all, it's a ball busting list to be sure, assuming someone isn't taking a boatload of donkey cannons....oh wait. hehe. Capt K

You oughta score two more technical servitors. 2+ beats the pants off 4+. I'm guessing you're templing him with the Russes?
It probably wouldn't hurt to cram in another set of Improved comms - two of them is basically +1 choice per turn in Escalation.
I think a Rhino would better serve the =I= than a Chimera - save yourself the 28 points. I was about to suggest making him Elite until I noticed the Psychic Hood. The Techpriest *probably* isn't going to need that Chimera to do his job - unless it's mandatory for armoured company. If you can scrape up another 25 points, I'd grab another Russ, or possibly something fighty with which to counter-attack. Maybe a couple of GK termies, a Teleport Attack, or, if you can take them, a couple of Rough Riders?

When soldiers think, it's called routing.

As I recall given my extra points I?ll be at 3 Servitors .. and down to a 3+ when this thing is finalized.

It probably wouldn't hurt to cram in another set of Improved comms - two of them is basically +1 choice per turn in Escalation. Rhino is certainly viable option to consider I?ll have to see can be done with those points in conjunction with other changes. As long as I got the warriors in the IQ retinue they need a ride and are my only late game seize objectives unit..  Yep .. I need the IQ HQ for the hood as Siren list defense or gamble on not facing one?  Unfortunately unlike the IQ ?the Techpriest?s ride is mandatory for the list because your right .. he?s not using it while latched to the Baneblade.

Thanks for the feedback..

Still, the Techpriest's Chimera still makes for a great run blocker for your other vehicles though. Capt K

God I wish I was playing in this and not running it. I'd love to play against all of these armies, though Hank I have played against yours a few times and the 'trick'. Next year I'm playing and not running it.

Your army is a joke. You'll have the same dearth of success you had last year with big daddy 'thirster.

Let's see what happens the first time somebody drops in and annihilates your baneblade on turn 1....

Muhahahahah

Or, more realistically, *gulp* That's a lot of pie plates. We should call you baker's square.

And just so you don't think that I'm ducking the challenge:

2000 points, Annointed Skulls

Librarian, Veil of Time, Fury of Ancients, plasma pistol, termie honors.

Command squad,  4 marines ccw and BP,  2 marines plasma rifles, Apothecary, Vet sgt w/PF

           Drop pod

5 Terminators, 2 donkeycannons, drop pod

3x10 marines, 2 melta guns, vet sgt w/PF  drop pod

10 marines, 2 plasma guns, vet sgt w/ PF  drop pod

10 scouts, ccw&bp, vet sgt w/pf

74 marines, 6 melta guns, 2 plasma guns, 2 donkeycannons.   and a lot of bolter shots...

Completely smoked.  If we match up I might as well just go buy you a beer at the bar...

I don't know if I'd call that rude. More like, "unfriendly." Maybe even "mildly impolite." The kind of thing that belongs in an advice column geared towards pre-teens.

Of course, only three people can claim to be former AdeptiCon Gladiator Champions. Having that notch in your belt gives you a different perspective on what's rude.

@ Blackmoor, Are you serious? That is the same army list you lost to Alex with last week. If Alex's IG could whack you, imagine what is gonna happen when you face a Baneblade. If that is what you are bringing, save yourself the trip, You're gonna get crushed.

Do you even have a plan for dealing with something like a Baneblade?

Of course!

I have a tactic that I am going to use. It's a new stratagy I like to call HIDE!

I have such a small army that I can fit behind just a few pieces of terrain.

And although there is a lot of cheese in the chaos codex, the Thousand Sons don't get to use any of it...but I have a few tricks up my sleeve.

But the real anwser is through skill and tactics.

Perhaps in the wrong thread, but what the hell...

In the essence of keeping a Gladiator list 'Rude', is there anyone fielding two superheavies? Yes, I know that they take upp two heavy support slots each, but could a IW army take two Chaos Titans for example? Isn't there any IG rule-loophole that allows two Baneblades?

Anyway, good luck with the list, I hope these forums will be filled with battle reports and photos after the torunament...

Only the IW can do it (per the rules). We haven't heard of anyone ponying up for 2x Chaos Titans, but not everyone is sharing their list beforehand.

Well, if it's doable I really hope to see a list with like 2 Chaos Titans, 9 Obliterators, A nasty DP and some other junk. Just screams "cheese" in most players ears, just the way Gladiator should be.

well the cheapest 2 titans could be is 1620 points. Its more likely that you would see 2 titans, 3 las/plas squads, and a cheap HQ

Muhwe, What happened? Thought you would have messed some people up? I know you went down in the first round, and I think you lost too. Good to see you again. Looking forward to next year already.

I guess I have to play Elysians...

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

The armored companies did not do well. Everyone was packing a ton of lascannons.

You would think that a horde army would do well in that enviorment, but I don't really recalling seeing any (there was a genestealer list that I lost to, but Centurian99 beat). But the one problem they would have is that it seemed that time was rather short. I only have 30 models in my army, and I normally finish very early, but I was ending my games just in time.

Actually the Armor Company faired pretty well for me. I had a record of 3-1 on the day. A loss to Marc Parker round 1 had a couple of critical turns that could have made the difference ultimately Marc carried the day and right away eliminated me from contention. Baneblade hung around till turn 5 with Dark Eldar Wyches climbing all over it. Cudos Marc for a fantastic game. Baneblade failed to go down the rest of the tourney. The problem really was the list was unable to do anything more than win. You also had to be able to pick up the 2nd and 3rd objective points each game to have a chance. I managed to win out but the damage was done. Welcome to the club Papa. Fred, Bill and I will have a Jacket waiting for you...

Jacket heck...

I want the key to the secret club room. you know, the one with black lighting and the pole in the corner. That's the only reason I won...

And I was terrified of your army and had no idea how to beat it.. So thanks to Marc for helping me out.

Papa,<?

I would have loved to square off against your drop pod force. The end result was the list did what I wanted it to do .. it was rude, and made people pucker but at the end of the day couldn't get the max point victories needed to be in the hunt.
