Hi there.

First post here, but I've been reading a while, so dont feel the need to be too gentle.

 

I recently finished a tyranid army and decided to move on to genestealer cult, using the imperial guard codex with witchhunter allies to represent it.

I made the following 1000pts list, the only real requirement being keeping the inquisitor lord and callidus assassin (dropping just one would be fine if need be).

Feedback on this would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to be competitive:

 

1 Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor Lord + retinue - Bolter- Purgatus - Divine Pronouncement  = 116pts
1 Acolyte - Laspistol - CCW
1 Familiar - CC Weapon (x1)
1 Warrior - Targeter; - Hp / CCW; - Frag Grenades; - Krak Grenades

1 Callidus Assassin = 120pts

Command Platoon = 266Pts

4 Command Squad - Lasguns - Iron Discipline  = 46pts
1 Junior Officer - Bolter
6 Anti Tank Squad - Lascannon (x3);
2 Sentinels - Lascannon

Infantry Platoon = 231 Pts
4 Command Squad 
1 Junior Officer
- Bolter
10 Infantry  - Lascannon; Lasguns; Plasma Gun
10 Infantry  - Lascannon; Lasguns; Plasma Gun

10 Armoured Fist Squad - Lasguns; Plasma Gun = 167 Pts
Chimera - Multi-Laser - Hull Heavy Bolter- Pintle Heavy Stubber

1 Basilisk (Heavy Support) = 100 Pts
     Earthshaker Cannon; Hull Heavy Bolter

Models in Army: 55


Total Army Cost: 1000

Consider dropping the Lord to an Elite inquisitor and losing most of the retinue (actually, consider losing 'em all and making them a DH elite inquisitor with tarot, psychic hood, whatever psychic powers you want and a psycannon--you can still get the callidus and he's better equipped). Use points to give AF squad a heavy weapon, preferrably a lascannon. Does that bassie have indirect fire? Gotta find the points for that. And switch your sentinels to either MLs or ACs--you're going to want the multiple shots. And just be aware that none of your vehicles are buddied up enough to spare them from concentrated Anti-tank firepower.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

Hmm... The inquisitor lord is an HQ choice. Taking allies allows only 1 choice from the elites section, so taking an elite inquisitor would deny me the assassin and demonhost. I'll probably take the elite inquisitor anyway though, and just drop the assassin.

As for the other changes - could you ellaborate on why the sentinels need multilasers or autocannons? I though I'd just cram in as many lascannons as possible...

I like your approach for your army but this are a couple of suggestions
You only got one doctrine so youre missing another 4 close combat drill increases youre ld by 1 at no cost and you can try any other combination
like syr8766 state drop the retinue for youre inquistor lord (and keep him as a HQ choice) the tarto pysacannon pyschic hood is one good combo for Inqusitor Lord (maybe a power weapon or DH weapon) just in case you ran into trouble
If you want to benefit for the retinue add 2 mystics and add either three warrior servitos or plasma gunner stormtroopers or no other retinue
this will be a would anchor agaisnt Deepstrikers in your deployment zone (either the warrior and the inquisitor fire at them or any nearby unit can )
Keep the callidus the ability to whisper in your ear to re deploy one of your enemy unit would be awesome
For youre command platoon I will consider adding a standard bearer for exztended leadership bubble. another thing this unit normally excel at counter charging so adding meltas/flamers will help you.
the anti tanks squad and the sentinnel are good way to remove enemy armor
With youre infantry platoon again the command squad is good to counter charge unit
adding a vet sarge for your infantry units will boost youre leadership
you can add a remenant unit of 6 with special weapon and sarge for counter charging two.
From here if you want to expand I'll recoomend a special weapons squad (meltas and demo charge) an additional infantry platoon a leman russ or two.
I forgot the name of the wargear item that lets you redeploy one of your infantry units, you may want to purchase one or two off em for youre officer so you can deploy in the open a unit and bait youre opponet into deploy according to this and then redeploy then to safety.

Re: Dropping the retinue - the retinue is compulsory on an inquisitor lord. Still, I like the idea of mystics, so I'll add one or 2 in. Should help against anybody trying to reach my gunline in any sneaky ways.

The rest of your suggestions were ways to improve the army, but at exactly 1000pts I can't afford to lose anything, so I can't do any of them unless you suggest what to drop.
