Greetings!

Ok, before people start presuming I am using 6 Basilisks as troops choices, worry not. I intend on using 6 Griffon Mortars. I like the idea of being able to *edit*wound pretty much anything on a 2+, insta killing T3/4+Sv units and also, not obliterating my opponent and making the game unenjoyeable for us both.

"The Gravediggers"

HQ- 1 HQ Chimera: Turret Hvy Bolter, Hull Hvy Bolter, Pintle Hvy Stubber.

Elites- 2 Ace Gunner Chimeras: Turret Hvy Bolter, Hull Hvy Bolter, Pintle Hvy Stubber.
Troops- 6 Griffon Mortars: Hull Hvy Bolter, Pintle Hvy Stubber.

Fast Atk- 9 Lascannon Sentinels.

Hvy Sppt- 3 Demolishers: Hull Hvy Bolter, Sponson Hvy Bolter.

Total: 2004pts.

I figure, with having lots of Pinning, Ordnance barrages, I can suppress the enemies troop units, and, while pinned, use the Chimeras/Demolishers to whittle them down. Also, since the Mortar is S6, I can also fire that and all its weapons if I have range/LoS to the enemy. The 9 Lascannon Sentinels will provide me with adequate anti vehicle support, by having them use there Scout rules to control enemy vehicle deployment.

So, I ask you all, does this list sound challenging/cheesy/fun? Is there anything that this army is lacking? What things do I need to look out for, to prevent myself from losing?

Any and all feedback is greatly encouraged. Also, any links on Griffon conversions would be appreciated as well ( I cannot find where to buy the model).

Thank you.

Da Southern New Hampshire!

2004pts in a 2000pt game is cheating.

2004 =/ 2000.
So you may need to shave an upgrade off.

Well you have the sentinels to take care of tanks and the demolishers to take care of hordes, but change out a demolisher or 2 with normal russes, you need the range there.

If at first you don't succeed, you fail.

I will look into those regular Leman Russes.

I just realized I cannot have Demolisher's anyway, so I will use 3 Leman Russes.

Also, how do you think this army would fair? Is it cheesy? Well balanced? Challenging? (note, I chose NOT to use Basilisks to keep it fun)

sound interesting the only thing that seem like a waste of points are the pintle heavy stubber in your griffons if youre shooting the main gun and then you cant use the pintle HS that 72 points wasted per turn I guess that an additional tank. just my two cents

Hmm, so if I drop all 6 HS's from the Griffons, would should I get for 72 points to compliment the army?

I am confused at the last part you said about an additional tank. Can you clarify what you meant please?

I'm curious why you say "pin on a 2+"?

It's not an army I can see doing particularly well. You won't be able to hide 6 griffons in most games, and power armored opponents won't die fast enough.

I'm also not a fan of sentinels. They die far too quickly for my liking. 9 of them is only about 4 dead marines a turn, and they can't deal with very much return fire. An 8 man ML dev squad in 4+ cover likely outshoots them all.

Mix in a coupld of bassies to make it a little more competitive.

How about this list (it looks pretty brutal):

HQ: Chimera- turret HB, hull HB.
Elite: Chimera Acex2- turret HB, hull HB.
Troops: Basiliskx6- Indirect Fire.
Hvy Sppt: Leman Russx3- hull Lascannon.
Fast Atk: Autocannon Sentinelx6

Total: 2000

Granted, I put the Bassies in to make this list look intimidating. I showed it to my gaming group and they actually preferred the Bassies over Griffons, just for the sheer curiousity of just how brutal a Siege Regiment can be. Yeah, there were some scowls and scoffs, but I am looking for something that has more bite than bark (unlike my other 5 armies, I want this one to be brutal, yet a tad more exotic).

If this seems a little overboard, I will work on a 3 Bassie/3 Griffon split later tonight, with Hellhound support, rather than Sentinels.

Once again, any/all suggestions are appreciated.

Ok, I crunched some #'s and came up with a more balanced artillery list:

"The Grave Diggers"

HQ: Command Chimera- turret HB, hull HB, pintle H.Stubber
Elite: 2x Chimera Ace- turret HB, hull HB, pintle H.Stubber, rough terrain mod, searchlight.
Troops: 3x Griffon Mortar
3x Basilisk + Indirect Fire
Fast Atk: 3x Hell Hound- pintle H.Stubber, rough terrain mod.
Hvy Sppt: 3x Leman Russ Battle tank- hull Lascannon, sponson HB, pintle H.Stubber.

Total: 2000pts.

The plan would be to pin key units, then rush them with the rough terrain moded Chimera Aces and Hellhounds. I keep the Command Chimera mid field to stay alive long enough to call in Reserves and watch the artillery. I can use both the Lascannons on the Leman Russes and the Basilisks to take out vehicles.
All in all, 3 HH's sounds nasty, backed up by 3 pieces of artillery that are devastating to Marines and "softies" as well.

So, how does this list look now? Is it more versatile than the all Basilisk one? Does this look more exotic/fun/challenging/cheesy? Any/all input is appreciated.

Thank you.
