I'm thinking of going for forge fathers as my Dreadball team. The question is, what's next?

Anyone got good start locations and the like? Particular formations that suit the guys. From what I can tell from reading the rulebook, they seem a bit less... fluid than the others.

Or is it just a matter of playing the game and adapting to what's unfolding?

Yes and no. Formations from the point of view of starting set up (based on the two teams being used and whether you are home or away) is something that needs considering. Once the game starts formations don't often have a place IMO as the fluid nature of the game and the need to keep your scoring options open in your opponents half mean that there aren't enough players to form one (because it's hex based it's almost impossible to form a cage without your whole team for example).

Unfortunately the FF are the only team of the first 8 I haven't played with or against yet so I have no specific advise.

I usually try to kill everyone and gain board control that way with my FF. Works well enough unless I get too engrossed with killing them and forget to score

So far, it would seem best to keep the strikers off field until the last few rushes by then there is a chance they can pinch you some glory having spent the early part of the game trying to smash up the opposition with your guards and jacks

Remember, there are no resets in DB so the FF being slower than most need to consider each move a bit more carefully.

One thing that was noticeable from our former BB player was that he tried to "cage" the ball ala BB. It just does not work. You cannot allow your opponent the initiative if you can help it.
