Hi folks,

Most of my kickstarter plegde arrived the other day and immediately got stuck in. So hopefully over the following pages I will post up the models and buildings from the two pledges and beyond. And to kick things off here are the first painted models from the Mexican gang:

Plus a few bits of scenery I made a while back:

Thats it for now.

Cheers

Oh very nice, the colours look great on the Mexicans, I look forward to seeing the whole gang done.

And that's some great scenery, is it scratch built?

I am jealous of your train. I want one now.

Looking great so far! I love the tent, I've been desperately trying to find some good teepee models, but nothings out there in the right size. Gonna have to just make my own some day.

Thanks folks. Yeah most of the above is scratch built, the train is a Christmas one (it had all sorts of junk on it that had to be stripped off) and the only other bought stuff is the vegitation. Though I do have a load more buildings I have bought since just not painted up yet, so expect to see those in the future.

The tent was quite easy to do, I cut a piece of insulation foam to shape, wrapped some tea stained fabric over it and then used some sewing pins and thread for detail. I plan on doing some teepees the same way in the future.

Im glad Tim is going to be doing wagons in the future, I really didnt fancy making my own and there arent any I have seen that I like or are the right scale.

Cheers

Wagons are a long way off Decided I don't want to do them till we can figure out a way to tackle plastics. Then the plan will be to do multi-part plastic horses first, probably with metal riders. And then we can use those same horses to pull the wagons

I'd like the wagon to be a plastic model kit with a few different looking riders, and the inside could be done where there's circles in the floor for you to stick a mini on a 30mm base, could probably fit 2 inside. But then an optional piece that would just have your normal stagecoach interior for if you want to build it to look more realistic.

There were some laser cut wood carts and wagons that I saw recently, now I suddenly can't remember where.

Looking great so far! Those bandidos look very good - I love the muted colors rather than more bright and garish, well done!

I've also just gotten my KS sets and am starting assembling, painting and terraining. Hopefully will have some photos to share later this week. Seeing yours has inspired me to get cracking!

You can't blame me for wishful thinking ;p anyway its worth pulling your leg and proding you ever onwards. Besides you know that us customers just want more regardless of how much we get!

Good luck eldurand, I just didn't want 13 more models to add to my extensive unpainted pile, I look forward to seeing how you get on. Im glad you like the muted look, I really wanted to shy away from the more vivid look that I might normally go for in other systems. The two holding the rifles Im planing on doing in the style of Mexican Army deserters, so blue coats white belts, with the remaining clothes mismatched and well worn.

Cheers

You might end up with some balance issues as they will be top heavy, but if your careful with the poses it will work.

I woldnt be all that concerned by metal figures on plastic horses, GW did that all the time back in the day

Dos Mexicans becomes cuatro, with the addition of some deserters:

Hopefully the execution is clear enough in my attempt to keep some distinguishing elements of their uniforms and that they still gel with the rest of the group. The last model I am going to have a little fun with, which should keep all the Red Dwarf fans happy

2 questions.

What did you base with? Just sand?

And what do you use for primer? I am trying to find something that will stick to metal better so I can paint a few things.

They're looking really smart. I second the query on your bases, that's a nice effect.

I use Tamiya fine white spray primer or Halford's grey car spray if the weather is good enough to spray otherwise I use grey gesso (the brand is Bob...something, I forget his surname).

As far as undercoat goes I use spray paint, just what ever comes to hand that is either cheap or available at the time. In this case I used matte grey car primer (this brand happens to be Tetrosyl, from my local auto shop), but I use alsorts of colours and brands depending on what its for. Some are better than others but even the bad ones are fine so long as you do multiple light coats.

As to the bases, it is just sand and grit. The method of painting it is really simple: first take a bronzed flesh tone, wash with a red hued flesh wash, dry brush with base colour, progressively dry brush with with tan colour then white, wash with first wash, wash with thinned black wash, wash with brown wash, lightly dry brush tan and then a little white again.

A tip for cheap basing material is (assuming you dont have access to a sand and gravel quarry) I get a bag of builders balast (sand and gravel mix for making cement), dried it in the oven (Scotlands cold and wet but if your lucky enough to live some where warm and sunny just leave it outside on a tray), sieved out the bigger pebbles. It makes for a much cheaper option to buying silly little tubs, honesty a bag that you will struggle to lift is about £2 (from any builders merchant or DIY store) and will do you a life time.

Cheers

Those are some nice picks. Love the Mexican's. I may have to pick up that set and add them to my Bandito's

And PP will be using them for their upcoming Light Cavalry models.

As for the Banditos, I'm another who is loving the paint scheme and the basing. I took the easy option with my Vigilance Committee and picked up some Ghost Town base inserts from Wyrd.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the kind comments I'm busy trying to decide what do do with my Vigilance Committee gang, I will probably stick with the earthy colours (it will make it easier to chop and change models out of custom gangs). I can't think on what to do with the base, I could keep them the same or do something a little different (I do have cacti rather than the shrubs).

Anyway here are the Mexicans completed, I don't think my Riviera Kid looks that great in the photos.
