So, im gonna cut right to the chase eh?

I plan on using Mantic Corporation models to represent my Imperial Guardsmen (as im sure many people have haha) because I like the looks compared to my fluff. However, I will need the ability to use special weapons like Plasma Guns and Melta Guns. From what I have seen however, the sprues don't come with anything that I can use as a fitting proxy for them (at least, easily and in quantity. Like, 3 per squad quantity). So does anyone know how well GW special weapons fit with the Mantic troops? I see on the models the arms have a bump like thing. Does that mean the standard arm comes with a "socket" for the "ball"? So would using non-Mantic arms not work? Just curious, I have never seen it done before...

Short answer is No, it would look terrible.

But it doesn't matter, you don't need GW bits because the Mantic Corporation minis come with flamers, plasma guns and meltaguns on their sprues anyway.

You get one set of plasma/melta/flamer for every 10 minis in the basic corp marines, and *3 sets* (so 9 special weapons total) per 10 minis with the Rangers. You won't run low on these any time soon, you get loads in the army box!

Plasma:

Melta:

Flamer:

Paint them appropriately (blue on the ribbing at the top of the plasma, red glow in the recess on the side of the melta), and it'll be quite clear which is which. They don't have any rules in Warpath, Mantic just threw them in there as a nod to 40k players.

GW arms or weapons (or their bobble-heads) on a Mantic mini will look utterly ridiculous.

GW uses heroic scale where all the weapons, hands and heads are crazily oversized, and a basic lasgun is 4 foot long, pistols can be 1-2 foot long (on the dark eldar wych minis this looks really stupid) their minis (even the cadians) are "roided out" to support this.

Mantic's weapons are scaled more realistically and are much smaller.

You'd end up with something like this:

Hahaha thanks, I guess

Since the weapons in the Mantic box don't actually come with arms for said special weapons (unless they do in the Ranger box, I never really looked at it) how do people usually attach them? Is there some way I never noticed, or is it just something similar to the GW Space Marine box where you need to cut the grips off the guns and glue them on the hands (which, was a really stupid idea)

Yeah, there's a bit of cutting involved to cut the rifle off and replace it with the special weapon.

Make sure you make a post on how your Corp troopers turn out! Think they are really nice little sculpts, will be interested in seeing what colour scheme you choose for them

Thanks guys!

Since this is also a small modeling project for me, can anyone chime in and answer one last question for me?

Is the Corp army box a good deal for the money? Or is it like a GW Battleforce which is usually a savings of like $5? I plan on buying a box of Rangers and an Army Box to start me off for the time being.

Its a good deal. Pretty much all of Mantic's army boxes are a great deal IMO.

That's good to know, may consider it then.

Okay, final question (I LIED hahaha)!

Since I have to cut up the arms to get the special weapons to work (which, is a bit of a pain. Surely it can't be hard to include some extra arms. That would help conversions too since Mantic seems to support that. But, oh well) is there an easy way to do this? I know it's likely trivial to most people, but last time I tried to "convert" something involving that I completely botched both the gun and the arms.

I don't think you can buy just extra arms off their site. You might be able to find them on eBay though.

Mantic Corporation army box is a brilliant deal.

For £50 you get £75 worth of models.

Not sure how that translates to dollars, but you get the idea, it's a straight-up 50% extra models for free when you buy the army box.

As for converting the guns, "don't cut the arms" is the best advice I can give. Just cut off the rifle and replace it with the special weapon.

I sure will! Im doing a IG regiment using the Corp Rangers as Veterans, Corp Veterans or Marines as Company Command Soldiers, and some Pig Iron Kolony Militia as Platoon troops. The fluff is that the planet hired an elite mercenary group (the Corp Troopers) to assist their militia troops in training and battle (so the Veterans), and to act as advisers (the Company Command) since they just had a cleansing of government after the planet Governor went Chaosy so the new established regiment is really new at this whole combat thing haha.

Gonna be an interesting modeling aspect for me, and a nice distinction to see the crisp, modern, and elite looking Corporation troops side-by-side with rag-tag militia troops.

So, I bought my first set of Corp troopers! I got a nice deal on a box of Rangers ($20 for a NIB). One question I have, is how do people normally cut the guns off the arms so I can attach a special weapon. I have heard that it can be pretty finicky to do.

Is it as simple as taking an exacto/hobby knife, and cutting the gun off (then the handle to the SW) and gluing the SW on? Or is the plastic/resin hard enough that I can't cleanly cut it. I have a limited income at the moment, so I really don't want to screw this up hahaha

EDIT: So. Many. Questions. Hahahaha, sorry about all of them. I know I sound so bad But for the people who are doing a proxy for Imperial Guard, how do you model your commanders/Squad Leaders. I don't want to model all of them with power-fists (since GW weapons don't really work here) and have to constantly explain they aren't, but I will if I have to. I was kinda thinking about using a GW Sergeant for the Squad Leaders so I can keep up with WYSIWYG. Plus, it kinda fits the fluff of my "officers" getting flashier looking kit (Pssh, who needs body armor, im covered in medals), im only asking to check if scale looks OK (difference is OK, I just don't want men being "feet" taller).

it's rather easy to cut, it slices well (no cracking/breaking in my experience) but you have to remember to use a *sharp* knife. Really. Go replace that blade already. IME it's the primary source of frustration for guys not used to work with this material
