Hey Dakka!

Pretty simple question I know, but I'm awaiting delivery on the Elves boxed mini army (the one with 85 figures in it). Primarily this for use in WHFB against my brother and a few mates, but we will be playing some KoW next week. I've played it a couple of times but only with Dwarfs and I've never played with or against the Elves. So im hoping to pick up a few tips from you KoW players out there. Cheers!

They are good shooters, in general and Elite helps even smaller units get a good chance of hitting stuff (in melee and ranged).

Their mage queens are excellent heroes (withe Heal and shooting attacks with Zap! (5)---but are fragile.

Very shooty army, the blasting arrow and piercing arrow are brilliant picks for units of archers since you can use Elite to re-roll the dice for them.

Support the shooting with some solid melee units and some fast stuff to round it off (Drakons are really effective even if you might want to find alternative models for them - the new LotR plastic eagles look like a sweet option).

Aye, I have been looking into alternatives for the, frankly nasty, Drakon sculpts. I'm painting them as Drow, so I might be able to get away with some Dark Elf minis, but I'm not sure yet....

If it helps I have:
Mage on Elven Steed
50x Spearmen
30x Archers
20x Scouts
2x Bolt Throwers

I'm looking at getting another regimet box of Archers, or possibly the Hail Of Arrows box to get a third Bolt Thrower. Possibly some Palace Guard, but I don't want to go crazy with Melee...

Last I heard the Sea Guard unit (Mixed archers and spearmen) wasn't quite as effective as getting just spearmen or just archers, so keep that in mind if you're thinking of using it. I personally don't play Elves (Kingdoms of Men Cavalry, woot!) so I don't know if this comment I heard holds up under actual play.

Imagine the feeling when you position your tanks, engines idling, landing gear deployed for a low profile, with firing solutions along a key bottleneck. Then some fether lands a dreadnought behind them in a giant heat shielded coke can.

Drakon Riders, Elf Kings on Dragons, Stormwind Cav and Shamblers-a combined army of that will ruin your opponent's day-it's fast, mobile, and the shamblers are halfway up the board before the game even starts.

Of course, I have overly competitive friends who have to run the most powerful things they can and the choice is to play at their level or lose every game...
8 Dwarven cannons for me with Engineers? Yup, it's a must.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.
