Ok, i have a game tongith against my reular opponent. he is using hsi orks rather than his dreaded blood angels so i might actualyl have a shot.

i'm looking for soem advice with a list. I dont know his exact list but he usually brings the following:

Lootas
Burnas
2 or 3 trukks
Battlewagon
3 bikers
a squad of 30 boys
squad of 10 nobs (?)
His HQ is the black reach model with a power Claw - War Boss is it?
He has also just finished painting his Dakka Jet
3 of the walkers (killa kans i think)

Here's the 2000 point list i was thinkign of using:

Nemesor Zahndrekh (robbing that big sqaud of furious charge could be handy)
D-Lord (Weave,MSS)

Lord - (WS, Weave, MSS, res orb)

15 Warriors
10 Warriors (Ghost Ark)
5 Warriors (Nightscythe)
10 Immortals (Tesla)

6 Wraths (4 whip coils)
4 Destroyers

Anni Barge
Anni Barge
Monolith

I wouldn't normally use a 'lith (in fact i havn't used one at all since the new 'dex cae out) but i dont think orks have much that can scratch Av14 and that Ap3 pieplate will be pretty handy. I could also try and use it to block some charges if i get decent placement of it as well.

Put Zahndrekh with the warrior blob and walk them up with the Ghost Ark.
Lord with the immortals.
the other 10 man sqaud of warrors coudl wither stay in the Ghost Ark for a "gauss gunboat" or hold the home objective.
Wariths and D-lord to move up the flanks and target the lootas asap, then take out targets of opportunity.
Barges and 'Lith to combine fire on boys/nobs.
Destroyers to pick out the bikers.
Nightscythe to shoot down the dakkajet and then drop a small unit at end game to capture or contest an objective.

Things i can swap out/in:

30 scarabs
2 spiders
CCB
Overlord
Imhotekh
4 Crypteks
2 C'Tan
2 Heavy Destroyers
Another 10 warriors

Couple cool things you can do with your list.

Drop the res orb off the lord and put him in the 15 man blob. Take the 5 man group from the scythe and add them to the blob. Zahndrekh will cover the orb for that group, while the lord is your challenge brawler. Keep the ghost ark near the 15 man blob with the 10 inside of it.

Stuff the immortals in the scythe and use it to hit his lootas and squishy backfield units. They won't miss the lord in that group if you're targeting the right stuff on their own backfield, since all his stuff that isn't squishy is going to be halfway up the table.

Get your monolith into a good position, and on the next turn, kick the 10 warriors out of the ark and warp them in front of the monolith for some hilarious SURPRISE SUCKER! moments.

Shouldn't have too much of a trouble with his orks. Just make sure you are constantly premeasuring to maintain the perfect distance away from his assaulty boyz each turn and he'll get annihilated. He has a 1-2 punch style army, focus on the fast stuff first and he'll only have a couple blobs left that you can simply whittle away.

If i do that aren't i basically losing a turn of shooting from the Immortals every other game turn?

Turn 1 - not on the table
turn 2 (assumign thescythe comes in) - move, jump out + shoot
turn 3 - re-embark and move - no shooting
turn 4 - disembark and shoot.

Whats people's view on DS-ing the monolith? Worth the risk to get it right up the table or just stick with it's 6" no-jink-save movement?

Yes, you lose a turn, but you have no good method of dealing with backfield lootas, which will chew up your footycrons. Once dropped off in their deployment, you get an easy linebreaker, shoot up their squishies, and even grab an objective away from them!

Deep striking the monolith isn't that great. I've done it a few times, and wasn't impressed with it. I find starting it on the table causes a lot of fire to be drawn away from my other vehicles to it and just laugh as everything bounces off of it. Really the only true threat to it is melta, which is more of a problem when you DO deep strike it.

Ok, so one big warrior block on foot with both foot HQs in it.

10 warriors in the Ark for a gunboat effect
and 10 Immortals in the scythe do Tesla the crap out of backfield orkses.

I'm also thinking if i start with the monolith on the front lines it can shield my wraiths until they are in a position to get the charge. My opponents fave tactic is to blast them with mass fire before they can charge in.

Just because you buy a Night Scythe for a squad doesn't mean they have to start in it. Depending on the situation you can always start the guys on the table and have the Scythe pick them(or anyone else) up when it arrives.

Was about to suggest a D&D squad, but then saw you didn't have any Deathmarks.

Didn't matter in the end as he switched to Blood Angels and proceeded to blend all my troops with his stupid Death Company Contemptor and Death Company squad after they jumped out of a Storm raven.

I hate death Company..

I don't play them/against them, but can they assault after disembarking/deep striking?
Most times when I've got to deal with CC armies, I just kite-and-shoot them.
Doesn't always work, but it has more times than not.

Stormraven is an assault vehicle, so yes. However, they cannot assault the turn they arrive from reserves, so if he flew on, kicked them out and immediately assaulted all in one turn, you got rooked.
