So, I've been reading the HH bookseries and I couldn't help but be stuck by the opinion that if I'm gonna run Space Marines, I'm gonna run Alpha Legion, because they are the sneakiest 8-foot tall S.O.B.s to ever put hands on a bolter, and I love that about them. My question is- do you know a way to get access to absurd amounts of infiltrate/outflanking power-armor or better marines in any marine codex (chaos or otherwise) to replicate the tendency of the Alpha's to appear out of thin air? I know whatever list I build will most likely supplement in some cultists for CSM or some guard allies for a regular SM codex, and if those could be ded sneaky as well, that would be a plus, but not as nessecary.

The Horus Heresy Betrayal list will allow you to do this.

What chaos mark do you give alpha legion troops? Does it matter that the mark isn't represented on an alpha legion guy?

Play Chaos Space Marine lead by Huron (aka, Aplha Legion Chapter master), he lets you infiltrate d3 untis. Backed up with some IG allies, using ratlings, Harker(I think thats the guy that infiltrates a vet squad), you could even have them lead by creed, who can give one unit scout.

You can get very alpha legion like force going with a mix of those forces, and they can still be rather effective.

Or just get 12 units of 35 cultists which will leave you at 200 free points for a HQ at 2000

I actually really like this idea, would probably make a frighteningly accurate list that would be a load of fun to play! I'm gonna hafta work out the specifics, but that should be a blast.

I would probably give them slaneesh or tzeentch marks, as bonus initiative seems a bit more appropriate, but a invul boost might be helpful. I wouldn't model the units to reflect this though, the version of Alpha Legion I have in my head says that they do not rely on demons/sorcery as much as their other traitorous brethren. However, I could also just skip the mark and save on points to throw more marines/guard allies on the board
