So with my typical 2k point list with my mech guard I run this

CCS
X5 Vet Squads
X2 leman Russ's
X2 Vendettas
X5 Chimeras
X1 Manticore

All of these are with a mix mash of upgrades of them , for my vets I tend to run them Plasma Heavy .
Anyone have any Suggestions as to what would make good ally's for my mech force ?

Im running a similar list, and ive been looking at eldar and orks for allies. Eldar add nice psychic defense, and wicked fast scoring units in gjb squads. Orks can either add some bodies in a boys mob in a wagon and a nob mob in a wagon with a kff mek or a warboss, or a powerful bikernob deathstar to slap things to death in cc, and to draw firepower from the rest of your force

Dark Angels.
Give those tanks a 4++ save.

Second the new DA codex. You can take their Librarian with the power field generator for under 100 points!!! That's stupid good. Then take a couple squads of tactical marines, for some tough scoring models. Leman Russ tanks with 4+ invulnerable saves sound pretty good to me!!! (bear in mind that the range of the power field generator is only 3", so the Libby sholud be in a rhino or razorback to get a bigger tank defense bubble.

3 LRBT's in front / to the side completely block the rhino. That way, you have a solid little brick of AV14 with 4++ save center field. A lot of lists will have serious trouble dealing with that.

I think you're the only person who thinks tactical marines are good. That librarian with an aoe 4++ isn't 100pts, when you include the tac tax he's 170pts for a 3" 4++ bubble and divination on one thing. Is that worth it? You could get an ADL for 50pts with a 4+ cover line which can include just about every chimera hull you have. Yeah it's not as good, but it sure is a hell of a lot cheaper.

Space wolves are better.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

You can get an Aegis for 50pts, and that can't be killed.

OP I'd suggest taking a peek at the demon codex. You can get some basic troops and a herald for fairly cheap, they're fun to paint and can be pretty effective.

Naaa na na na-na-na-naaa.

Wow , I appreciate the responses very one has given , so right now realistically I'm looking at Eldar , Orks and maybe Salamanders ( suggested by owner of FLGS ) from what I've heard Eldar Seer Council on bikes is REALLY. Hard to kill similar to the nob Death Star that was suggested earlier ? As for the idea with dark Angels , it sounds really good but that 4++ invul I think would make me take stupid risk with my Armour . For Eldar I could take Wraithguard ( how are they ?!) or a couple D-Cannons ( decent from what I've heard ) Any other ideas ?

just my 2 cents run a unit of GK,

Coteaz manning my skyfire lascannon, 3 plasma cannon servitors, with 7 stormbolter henchmen, and 2 DCA's all sitting behind my ADL

opponets have mistaken my named ally HQ for my warlord several times and beat feet to try and take him out.
adds a tremendous amount of threat to the table: 3 PC's, 1 LC, 7 Stormbolters, and 5 power weapons usually twin linked.

under 225 (i think) for a unit that cannot be ignored as a nexus for my army allowing my plasma vets to harrass/destroy flanked targets.

and with (usually, always seem to roll that one??) the 4++ invul plus presience they have some good longevity.

Coteaz and some strike squads are also good at taking out drop pod, daemon and Deathwing armys that pop up in your face turn 1.

My mech guard has a rough time dealing with this but a few of the above mentioned units help. I only take presciene from the Div powers with Coteaz though because he can't cast it on the guard guys but it can help with giving the psycannons re-rolls though so I try and roll an offensive power for his second one.

As tempting as it is to take the termies it better off to take strike squads for there Warp Quake ability. Trust me. If your meta isn't playing like this yet it will be.
