Well my main focus is its applications towards Long fangs, and it a fire base. Since it protects very well agiasnt anything that would go through cover especially the Chaos flyer and it's fiery torrent of death.

But I Guess my main point is it a viable option as a secure firebase seeing as it grants a 4+ invul, and has potenial for any deep striking army which as Drop Pods, and Terminator become more prevalent.
Or would it be better to just get the Aegis defence line and hope for the best.

If your deep striking alot of stuff nowadays, then this could be viable, plus LF would love the 4++. Armies i see using this are DW/DP spam and maybe the LF spammers would find a use for this. The only caveat for this is that it is in your deploy zone or where ever you deploy terrain, so it isn't reliable to get CC units to the front.

The only real defense vs. the Heldrake. It ignores cover and is ap 3, but not a 4+ INVULNERABLE!

Expect a gakstorm of rules arguments though,

The sky-shield's rules have some gaping holes and exploits.

It makes a decent firebase, but check with your opponent and/or TO before use, to square away interpretation.

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

What are some of the exploits, or gaping holes you speak of?

I dont see any gaping holes in it...
if its walls are up, 4+ invul for those inside. It does not say only your side, nor does it say shots from within negate it so i can see that causing issues.
If the walls are down, any deepstrike doesnt scatter. It does NOT list this when furled up, so clearly it doesnt happen when the 4+ invul is in effect.

Everyone i talk to says its banned in tournies because its kinda cheap. 75pts for an elevated, large firing platform that gives a 4+ invul? Even without the deepstriking thing thats kinda broken. Bring that in a friendly game i bet your opponent will go wtf?

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

This thread covers one of them

There is a big issue on where/how to access the shield, and how to assault one.

Search Skyshield on dakka and you should find a few more vitriol laced threads.
