So I am looking at getting into 40K I haven't played before. I am coming from Warmachines/hordes.

I have gone over the rules and played a bit and have decided I want to play tyranids.

I really like the tyranids and I have a list in mind from a friend who is switching armies. I am very tempted but then he told me that the only way to be competitive with Nids is to build a list around Tervigon, and Gants that is very shooty.

I would prefer a more assualt army. What do you guys think? Here is the list below of what I would be getting.

50 - Hive Tyrant (oop metal/plastic, magnetized: heavy venom canon, scything talons, bone sword, whip. other weapons on sprue)
55 - Carnifex (built with dual scytals, other weapons on sprue)
55 - Carnifex (magnetized scy-tals, magnetized crushing claws, other weapons on sprue)
45 - Harpy (Converted Carnifex, no guns)
35 - Tervigon (converted carnifex, 4 legs, 1 set scything talons)
25 - Tyrant Guard (metal, converted w/ resin bonesword. primed white, missing left hand)
25 - Venomthrope (metal, primed white)
50 - 2x Zoanthropes (metal, base coated)
50 - 2x Hive Guard (metal, base coated)
45 - 3x Warriors (plastic, glued scytals, 2x magnetized venom cannons, 1x magnetized bone sword, extra arms on sprue)
15 - 12x Genestealers (oop blue plastic version, stripped plastic/primer)
15 - 3x Ripper Swarms (plastic. 6 per base)

You should get Termagaunts to go with your Tervigon

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

I totally faild in my google search for Tyranid builds but most Tyranid players are running a psychic choir/Tervigon build.

Consists of a lot of Psyker MCs rolling on Biomancy for enfeeble and iron arm, tervigons for shooting and crapping out gaunts.

Use enfeeble to reduce toughness of units and the shoot the piss out of them.
