*Update* The next time we are meeting is February 8th at noon at Manhattan Beach Community Church *Update*

Hi Everyone.

So some of my friends and I are hosting a Warhammer 40k game night to try and find more local players to game with. The event will be on Saturday March 2nd at my local church in Manhattan Beach (no religious stuff and all are welcome; it’s just the place where I can rent a room for free) from 5:00PM till midnight. We will have two tables set up with homemade terrain (built by yours truly).

The goal of the evening is to meet new people, play few games of 40k, and see if there is any interest in starting a gaming club in the area. If your new to the hobby or haven’t started playing yet I will be bring both my Necrons and Dark Angles armies and would be happy to share and introduce you to the game.

Like I said all are welcome regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or religion however some behaviors are not welcome. Firstly no recreational drugs or alcohol are allowed (sorry beer-hammer folks). Secondly language must be kept friendly, this means no cursing or offensive language. Lastly, this should go without saying, be respectful of other people and be a good sport about gaming. If you want to come please be willing to follow these rules.

If you are interested in joining us or what more information please let me know by emailing me at GameNightPlayers@gmail.com.

Hmmm, that's quite short notice.

If you had given me earlier notice, then I'd might have been able to make it.

Good luck!

Well one of the goals of the evening to to discover if there is any interest in meeting regularly, so if you are in the area and are looking for a group to game with it would still be helpful to know.

So Saturday Night was a lot of fun and we are going to do it again next month. We are thinking the 6th or 12th of April, let me know what dates work for some of those who were interested but couldn't make it. I wanted to do a battle report on one of the games but my phone died after turn one. So instead I am just going to share some photos I took before that.

Our Daemon happy despite his new Codex just lost to the Necron player, all agreed he got some pretty awful luck with the warpstorm table.

Chaos Space Marines going up against Imperial Guard

The CSM got in too close, partly due to a 4+ invul save for an Archeotech in the middle of the map that stopped the battle cannons from bringing the hurt, and won the game.

We then had a 2 v 2. Necrons teaming up with me and my Dark Angels vs Team Chaos (CSM and Daemons). They had a nice collection of Daemon Princes and walkers.

They came at us full speed moving most of their army 12" or more

But knights came out of the Landraider and met them before they could get to our other units

This was when my phone died. It was a pretty close game, but the necrons and I won the game, mostly due to his flyers dumping a squad of immortals on a victory point and destroying the cultist that were hiding there.

Hopefully we can get some new faces there next time, let me know if either date works for you.

If you post in this thread at least 1 week ahead (or 2 preferably) then there's a good chance I can make it (provided I don't have something going on that day). As I'm now bookmarked in this thread, I'll see anytime it gets updated with new info.

Anyone interested in Infinity here?

I know two of the guys play WarmaHordes but I am not sure about Infinity. If you are able and willing I would be interested in being introduced to the game, and I am sure some of the others would be as well. We also have a guy with a fantasy army who doesn't get to play with it often, and I own the Island of Blood box, but I got it mostly to paint not to play.

I would love it if you wanted to come down and join us, thats the whole point of this thing! If you are bringing the scenery in your signature that would be awesome. Do you need a gaming table to put it on or just something with legs to put a gaming table on top of? Either way your stuff would be welcomed.

Tables and space aren't a huge issue. The church has enough tables to host weddings and 200+ person dinners so we would have to get a lot of people coming before we need to worry about that. The room we are in now comfortably fits 3 tables and I think we could squeeze 5 in there if we needed to. If we ever actually needed more room than that we could always just book one of the larger rooms at the church.

Right now I have made 2 gaming tables and supposedly one of the other guys is building a lave themed table, but I don't know what the progress on that is. If my friends isn't done by then I might make another if we need it, but I doubt I will have time to make enough terrain to fill it, so its nice to know someone can bring some.

So we are less than a week away from Saturday. I hope everyone who was interested got the heads up.

So I thought I would share a piece of terrain I will have done by Saturday Night. It not 100% but its good enough to show off.

I present to you my Moonscape Hill Fort

Can't wait to play on it!

So I was thinking about maybe trying to put together a Tau army using the new codex (with my existing army) to try out tomorrow.

Is there a particular size army list I should be bringing and how are games organized? If I just show up with an army list can I get a game or do I need to plan ahead of time to make that happen?

Also, if you have extra tables but need more terrain, I can bring enough terrain to fill one table if you need it (if you don't need it, then I definitely don't want to bother packing it up and hauling it).

I guess I'll email you as well, just to make sure!

It would be awesome if you could bring Tau using the new rules. I know I wouldn't mind you using proxies for the new units and such.

Last month it was pretty informal. How games are organized is something we should most likely think about. Last month it was all people who knew each other and were comfortable just jumping into game with each other, but with people you don't already know we might need some structure to get things going. Eventually I would like to get some sort of campaign or league started, but I thought it better to get to know some more local gamers first before trying to start something like that.

MikeFox asked to play his Ork list at 1500, that might be a good point value. If you don't think you can swing that many points with the new codex I know a lot the people who came last time enjoy playing at the 1250 limit. (which is also what we like to use when doing 2 v 2s). If you let me know the size of your list you want to run I can ask some of the guys I know to make lists at the point value.

There is also the question of what kind of player are you. Are you more causal or competitive. I know I find it difficult for me to take units that I don't think will help me win when building a list, but several of my friends make lists simply because the love those units and want to see them on the battle field. If you let me know what kind of game you are looking for I can most likely find someone who would be a decent match as my group is pretty diverse in that way.

As far as terrain goes we have enough to fill two tables easily with some left over pieces. MikeFox said he was going to bring a bunch of Ork Terrain that he has which can fill a table on its own. I was thinking that three tables would be enough as I have only heard from seven (including you) people who are interested in coming. One of my friends said his Lava board would be "playable" by Saturday night, but I am not exactly sure what that means. I don't particularly want to play on a board that isn't painted... I think I am going to swing by Aero hobbies today and pick up one of those roll-up mats just in case his board isn't ready. If you have a few really nice pieces that are not to difficult to move I would say bring them. We have a lot of hills and a few ruins. we have buildings I built out of cardboard that are only primed grey. Things I wished we had more of are gun emplacements, objective markers (I have a one set), and aercotechs.

Yeah, the amount of Tau I can bring is not an issue. I've got all of this.

I think I'll probably stick to using the models I have, but just use the new Tau rules...I might proxy some Drones as some of the new type of drones, though. I'll aim for 1,500 points.

Do you guys tend to have issues with Imperial Armor rules being used? I may want to use my Forgeworld Tetras (although I may not, so as just to try out the codex as-is).

The terrain in those pics is what I've got to bring...its modular foam squares to make the table and such. As long as we've got enough table space to set it up on, then we're all good. If I have the time I'll pack it up and bring it, but it sounds like if I don't do that we'll probably be okay anyway (which is good).

As for what type of player I am, I tend to play almost exclusively in tournaments at this point in my life, but I enjoy all types of games even if I'm getting my butt kicked. I'll be trying to make the most wicked army configuration I can think of with the new Tau and my existing models, but I'm not going to be bringing allies or fortifications so there's a high probability that my force won't be all that deadly. With that said, if someone wants to bring triple Heldrakes against me, I'll just suck it up and take it like a man.

Your army looks really great. I normally don't care for the look of the Tau army but the green is a nice change.

I have no issue with Imperial Armor stuff as long as you can provide the rules for the model (I would like to be able to read them in some form). I can't speak for the rest of the guys, but I doubt it would be a huge issue.

Now that I think of it, if you have forest or craters that would be cool as well. Right now we have one of the GW craters set, but they are all painted and flocked for the grass board. I am planning on picking up another set to use for the moonscape board but I won't have time before tomorrow to get it painted

I would like the evening to end before 1:00am. I work on Sunday Mornings and need some sleep. If you showed up at 9:00 you would certainly have time for a game.

I am also considering setting up a side table for Kill Team. I played it the other day and it took like 45 minutes, which could be an option for people to do if we don't have time for another full game.

Right now its just 40k. I know one guy has a fantasy army, but it likely to late to get him to bring it. I looked over the rules for infinity and would be willing to give it a shoot if someone who knew how to play was willing to hold my hand through a game,

I have been telling people 1500 for 1 v 1, 1000-1250 for 2 v 2, but honestly if you had a particular point value you wanted to play at I am sure someone who accommodate.

I would also advise everyone to either plan of getting food for themselves or bringing cash to order something. There are lots of places to eat which are less that 5 minutes away and I would be happy to give directions. Last time we ordered Pizza and I would imagine we will do something similar tomorrow.

I will provide water and soda for the group, but if you are particular about what you like to drink I suggest you bring something you like.

Last night was a lot of fun. I got to meet some new people and play against the new Tau Codex. Yakface is doing a batrap of our game over here if any one wants to check it out.

I got the feel from the other players that earlier on Saturdays in Westchester would be better than Saturday evenings in Manhattan Beach, so keep a look out for an update on that (I will be aiming for May 5th but you never know when the rooms will be available).
