Does anyone know the name of the regiment from the first Gaunt's Ghost novel that wears purple carapace armor? They saved the Ghosts by attacking another Guard regiment. IIRC, their armor was funky...glass, or something like that. If anyone has any names of people from that regiment, I'd appreciate it. Thanks

The Vitrian Dragoons, I believe. The armor was volcanic glass, able to turn from a reflective side to a matt, "stealth" side at the touch of a control.
|
As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

GW novel authors are anything but consistent in the level of tech/knowledge/competence in the Imperium... much like the rest of the fluff.

In the Dragoon's defenese, it wasn't a stealth mode, so much as one setting left their armor bright and shiney, while the other caused it to darken and be non reflective, for those times when they didn't want to be the brightest thing on the battlefield.
And of course the technology level is inconsistant. For the IG, you've got troops coming from iron age level farm worlds, to forge worlds. You're going to see all sorts of different local tech productions. Besides, what's wrong with praying to the toaster? I do it every morning, "Oh great warmer of bread, as I reverently depress your toggle switch, bestow your gift of heat upon this humble bagel, and please do not burn too much this time. In the Emperor's name, today I shall have peanut butter."

Vitria is also mentioned in an Eisenhorn novel, 2nd or 3rd I think. One of the distaff are from Vitria. A world infamous for its valcanic glass. I'd really like to them appear in another Ghost novel, even briefly.

No, that was a different regiment. They are mentioned though, either there or in Eisenhorn.

It was the Jantine Patricians. Their colonel was Gaunts cousin and when Gaunt killed his Uncle Dercius for treason his son lost everything and had to make his way up the ranks. Colonel Draker Flense I think it was. The battle between the Patricians and the Ghost platoon for epic. Fifty light troops against more than a thousand heavy troops with heavy support. Three hundred Jantine fell before they even charged. You can't beat that last stand, fight to the death sort of battle.

The Jantines DID NOT have the glass armor. Go back and reread. The Patricians were the unit who tried to destroy the Ghosts from behind; the Vitrians were friends, protected the Ghosts from the Jantines, and had the reversible armor.

LOL. Actually centurian has mixed two different regiments into his post. The Vitrian Dragoons wore glossy glass armour that reveresed to mat black. They were allies to the Ghosts and are long overdue to make another appearance. The Jantine Patricians of Jant Normadinus Prime were heavy troops in carapce armour and mechanized. Arrogant bastards who thought they were the best the guard had to offer. I think the quote is something like the most guard fear the Patricians in the same way the imperial army fears the Marines. Now that is arrogance! Though the Patricians seem like an early prototype of the Volpone Bluebloods who are much more fun to hate and love. Btw the regiment the Vitrians attacked were the Jantine who were to destroy the Ghosts to further the intrigues of Lord General Lugo and Inquisitor Heldane, not to mention the grudge their Colonel Flense had against Gaunt.
