I tried to make an effective list, but I dont think its "perfect" yet. What do you think of this list, and what could/should I change to make it better?
I know its currently 2 points over limit, but I think I will just equip the Wolf Lord with a power weapon and stormbolter to bring it down.

Anyhoo, here is the list;

HQ:

Wolf Lord, terminator armour, lightning claws,
120 pts

Venerable Dreadnought, assault cannon, heavy flamer, extra
armour, drop pod
200 pts

Elites:

4 Wolf Guard bodyguards in terminator armour, 2 assault cannons,
2 chainfists,2 storm bolters, 2 power weapons, drop pod
256 pts

Dreadnought, assault cannon, heavy flamer, extra armour, drop pod
150 pts

Dreadnought, assault cannon, heavy flamer, extra armour, drop pod
150 pts

Troops:

8 Grey Hunters, meltagun, 2 powerfists, 7 bolters, drop pod
213 pts

8 Grey Hunters, meltagun, 2 powerfists, 7 bolters, drop pod
213 pts

10 Blood Claws, flamer, 2 power fists, drop pod
200 pts

Total: 1502 pts

(34 models, 7 scoring units, 7 drop pods)

Thanks.

-only thought would be to drop ven dread for another squad of hunters w/ 1 melta and 1 fist in a pod
-overall the army is good but model count is big w/ podding armies another squad would help out immensely while 2 dreads and terms should be fine
-another suggestion would be to drop the ven and a powerfist from each squad, making the change w/ the lord and including 3 tornadoes w/assault cannons
-the only thing that could be dropped is the ven dread, maybe a fist from each hunter squad, changing weapons on lord and dropping the flamer from the claws(for smoke on 2 dreads)
-so do you want alot of troops or assault cannons is the question i would rather go with the infantry, its more reliable

Not bad. You might save a lot of points whith less equipment on the termis. Also your Wolf Guard need a Pod for SW Termis cant deepstrike.

Oops! I forgot to type in the pod for the Wolf Guard and Lord, I have payed the points for it and edited the list.

As for the suggestions, they sound good. I will try to use another squad instead of the Venerable to see what happens. Also I have 2 of the Tornadoes and could try that one too (maybe using only two and keeping the goodies?).

I dont really know if I want alot of troops or alot of assault cannons, but I would like to know what you think is best. I could swing either way on that one!
How about the lone Blood Claw squad, should I keep it or perhaps get another Grey Hunter squad with similar weapons as the others?

The pods are DIY and I will post a thread on them in the modeling section soon. (Firs one is almost finished)

Thanks for the input!

I think your list looks like about the top notch, and I think drop pods will fit SW best at 1500 pts because of the 2 hqs instead of 3 at 1850.

Let us know how it works out.

One thing: Can you give your lord a frost blade+ccw instead to fix your points? Or frost blade+storm bolter, I guess. Forget whether SW termies can have a CCW like Chaos termies.

Termis cant have a Bolt Pistol or a free CCW. Id strongly suggest to drop the terminator armour from your lord and give him BP, FB, pelt. This way you get 6 attacks whether you charge or countercharge and save quite some points. You lose the 2+ and 5+ inv. save, but thouse are rarely helpful in my experience. (Hes hidden in a unit and better protected by killing things at ini 5 then by hoping for a 5+ inv. saves.)

A little progress report:

I played my first two battles with this army today. I used the list as it is exept for giving the Lord a Frost Blade and Storm Bolter instead of the Lightning Claws.

First battle:
Vs Dark Angels, the mission was Cleanse with Alfa rules.
He had:
2 x 6 man las/plas squads
10 jumppackers w 2 plasma pistols and a fist
2 rock hard characters with jump packs
7 terminators w 2 assault cannons
2 tornadoes

I got everything except 1 GH squad on my initial drop, and I totally forgot about the objective. So I did what you guys usually do with Drop Pod armies - I focused on a small part of his army and hid all my stuff behind the pods. I took out the Tornadoes and a las/plas squad but was horribly placed for grabbing squares after this. Anyway it ended in a draw, as we had one square each and contested one.

Game 2 Take & Hold Alpha vs Imperial Guard, he had something like:

3 Basilisks
NO heavy weapons
A lot of men with lots of plasmaguns and meltas

This time I got only 2 dreads and a GH squad on the first drop wich killed a command squad w fist and a handful of guardsmen, he blew up the Venerable and GH squad immediately.
Second drop and the rest came in and the casualties increased drasticly, this drop was also slightly more thought through and I took a little less counter fire.
The game was fun and close all the way to the finish, with me winning  the game on the last turn by shooting (with just 2 Blood Claws with bolt pistols) a single guardsman to bring a squad below half and thusly giving me a single more scoring unit within the objective.

All in all not the worst performance I have seen in a "new" army, but I think I made a lot of mistakes in my pod placement and target selection. Definately made me want to play with it again, and I will try another handful of games before making up my mind on what to change in this list.

Thank you for your comments, I will try to implement them all to see for myself what I would like in the list eventually.

Hopefully the first pod will be finished this weekend, when it is I will post some pictures of it.

I like the look of this version better - a bit more dakka, but I dont know if dropping the 2 chainfists on the termies is a good idea?

Any thoughts on the revised list?

Not completely bad, but I feel that the same list with codex Marines would be stronger.

- troops cost 3 pts less each and can have 2 Meltas

-termis are way cheaper

- Librarian..

- More Dreads can get venerable

I agree the Codex Marines would be a better choice points wise, but the Space Wolves is the chapter I want to play with because of the cool models and modeling possibilities (and I have too many SW painted up already to choose another Marine chapter)

The Terminators are 16 points (for the whole squad) more expensive than other chapters.

The 3 points more does give them 2 attacks in CC (with bolters) and counter-attack for the same cost as "Trust your battle-brothers" wich does the same.
Then the other advantages are free, so acute senses wich costs 1 point is free - and "No matter the odds" is also free.
If I could choose to not use and pay for those skills maybe I would, but its not that bad actually. (the cost that is).

Not having a second special hurts a little, but I have the option to take 2 plasma pistols and a Wolf Guard with another powerfist in each squad (wich Codex Marines cant) - so if I want more firepower there is a possibility to do so.

Librarian powers is something I would like to be able to choose though, and more venerable dreads would be nice to.

All in all, I dont think its the best Drop Pod army out there but it should still be fun to play with and be possible to pull off a victory against most armies. (Or am I way off on that last one?)

After a few more games I will mix it up a little and try those previous suggestions.

Thanks for the comments!

I tend to include the cost of the IC, when accessing SW Termis.

The Termis including the IC and pod cost 361 points. Codex marines get 5 Termis with 2 ACs in pod for 270 points.

Your unit is better in close combat of course. I find it has too few ablative wounds for the cost though.

Btw have you considered Runic Charms? On Terminators they are pretty good.

You have propably seen the way I equip SW Termis. If not take a look. They are much cheaper and still provide most of the benefits.
