Well I was thinking about how nasty this could be today, but would it be legal?

The Drop Pod rules don't force you to take a specific trait, so you could use an ultra marine list but have them in Drop Pods?

As long as he has a command squad.

I've played it (and it's legal with a command squad of course) in my drop pod army.

But I don't think he doubles the effects of "fear", so I just played it as 12". So he's only so/so. He does let you pick powers, but he has no inv save.

Yeah the lack of an inv. save can REALLY hurt him. MemphisMark came over on monday and we played a game (his Ultramarines vs my Necrons 1850). Mark dropped ol' Tiggy out of a Rhino and proceeded to fear my crons (I let him use the 24" range). Only one of my Lords and the immortals fell back, and in the next turn I sniped Tiggy's squad with a particle whip from the Monolith. S9 AP1 on Tiggy's head, and the rest of the template on his squad. POOF! went Tiggy and 7 of the squad. And both of my units falling back rallied.

You may be right, but based on what GW says on their website, you could see how people would think Tig. gets 24"

Well, that's just one guy. And his opinion matters no more than yours or mine.

I'm not disagreeing, but since it's on the GW website it has at least the appearance that it's an endorsed tactic, thereby legal.

Actually it's the closest thing to a Codex:SM faq that I can find on the website.. lol

I'm not sure "A guy that works at GW said I could" is going to go over very well as a rules argument.

Well I personally think that Tigurius can use a FOTD, as a 24 inch power, but that is unimportant for this discussion, I am glad that it is a legitimate tactic. . .

Oh and the necron thing was complete bs, you are allowed to pull a model from the squad as long as its in range and has los. . . So no sniping characters with it. . . frankly though ouch that was a pretty nasty hit 8 wounds, arg!!!

Like usual, Necrons can break that rule with the Monolith.

Whatever is under the center hole is affected seperately.

Yeah the whip is S9 AP3, and any model directly under the center hole takes a S9 AP1 hit.
