Since the mantic forums are rather quiet...

I've had a couple of dreadball games this weekend. So far I've played 3 sides total.

Forge Fathers V Corporation - my first game against one mate. This was mostly getting to know the rules, nothing much to report except that well, dwarfs are slowwwww. And dwarf strikers are really squishy. However, I think FF end up being the perfect introduction race. A win to the FF, though we were learning things as we go along.

Corporation V Forge Fathers. This was against a different mate. I suggested to him to to keep his strikers in the sub bench to start. That way he could then focus on bashing stuff (the easy bit of the game), while seeing how strikers can be used by the opposing team. What surprised me this time was a strikers ability to run rings round an opponent. Move full distance, pick up the ball, get a double, allow you to move full distance again. Then, later on in the turn, a section action to move full distance into a strike zone and bang. 15+ hexes move in 2 actions and potentially 3-4 points. A solid Corp win.

Orx V Corporation. This was against the same guy as the last game. After a good start, where goblins scored an easy couple of points, things went wrong very swiftly. - My orx were constantly getting hammered by the corp guards, I've never seen so many 2's rolled... Then my mate was using my same striker trick to run through and get a couple of 2 pointers and even a 4. - Plus, the strikers kept on dodging quite happily out of my orx way, with the gobbo's being no real use to anyone. I did have a big chance late in the game, a clear run down to a pass to the 4 zone in the next turn, enemy strikers out of action for the moment... Then the ball explodes. I didn't stand a chance after that. Game ended 4 points in the Corporations favour and both of us quite unsure of the Orx team... The complete lack of any strikers just seems really quite crippling to us. But then, maybe cleverer use of cards would help?

In saying that, the game seems really quite awesome, though I most certainly am going to need a LOT of practice with it to win anything that isn't against someone on their first game. All I really need to do is find the time...

I played Orx my first game and turned my Dwarven friend into a pasty smear on the pitch. I killed (not to be mistaken with injured) two of his guards with my own, and pretty much sacked anything he brought onto the pitch. I scored a couple points late into the game to keep it from being a tie, so I have to ask: why did you not focus on killing his guys as an Orx player, then snag a couple easy points near the end after his guys were bloody and broken?

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

It was a combination of rolling an awful lot of 2's, ninja corp strikers who were always dodging me and the orx seeming to be constantly rotating out of the injury zone.

It could have just been bad luck.

I think it must have been bad luck. I rocked with my Orx. Go guard heavy, and don't give up.

Goblins should be used to do one thing early on when you have the ball......THROW IT AT THE BACK OF THE OPPONENTS HEAD!!!!!

By using THAT strategy to finish off your turn, you move the ball down the pitch and in an area harder for them to score (with one less player on his feet as well if even still alive). Orx are all about ensuring you outnumber your opponent with the amount of bodies you have standing. Goblins aren't the best bashers, but they hit opponents with the ball just fine, and have great dodging abilities.

The other thing to keep in mind right now is the lists for the Season 2 teams. NONE of them are very bashy teams. 3 of them have 0-1 guards on the starting roster, so they will NOT be able to match up against the Orx bashing power. The other Season 1 teams all start with at least 2 guards, so they can all field a large number once they have played a few matches. Season 2 should really help the Orx shine.

Oh, and in general, The Corporation is BY FAR the best roster to start, as they have the positions and and skill levels to deal with the other 3 teams. Forge Fathers are a close second, with Veer-myn just edging out the Orx for the 3rd spot since Veer-myn are a nightmare for the Dwarves.
